My heated windscreen doesn't work and neither do the heated washer jets.

Checked both fuses (38+41) - ok. Checked relay, ok. The light in the switch does light. Checked earth - ok. Checked +12v feed to the screen - no +12v (as expected as it isn't working).

The whole aux fuse box has been checked - dry as a whistle - battery cover is in place and drain holes are clear.

What do I check next? I don't know if it's related but the heated seats and interior lights don't work either (alhough again, the heated seat switches do light up).

Heated rear screen and heated mirrors work fine.

Does the central timer module control them ? it's under the dash lower padding near your left shin,it also makes the boings and bleeps.They are fiddly to remove but it's fairly easy to pull the plug out and substitute a known good one.It definitely controls the wiper timer,and the interior lights maybe connected as well.I had a duff battery saver relay once,and that caused the interior lights to fail.

Have you check fuse 36 & relay R16 in the battery side fusebox ? :)

I haven't JC.

And interesting about the timer module. How would I go about trying to source a replacement? I posted in the wanted section a while back but go no reply.

Common problem for them to pack in. Mine did and it was obvious when the windscreen was replaced what had failed.

The connector strip on the bottom of the screen. I just waited for a nice crack to form and paid my £50 excess to have a new one put in a god send over the winter months.

Another thing to check is the connecotors top and bottom of the screen. They are like spade connectors you can see the two bottom ones with the bonnet open.

There is two wires, one each side next to the scuttle panel with black tape over them.

The screens do just burn out. There might be no visable damage to it or the elements but the connectors at the base which are covered in the bonding sealant do wear and corrode off.

Common problem with all heated screens and I bet you this whats wrong with yours if its the orginal one.

Yes, all in spec. When I apply 12v direct from the battery the screen clears.

And how can you mange to do that as the screen is split into two sections and two of the connections are hidden up top of the A piller and require the side trim rivets drilling out to connect to.

Only the two bottom connections are reachable with no work.

If there is no feed to the screen then the fault has to either in the fuse box ( relay) or the switch, and lastly the wiring to the screen.

That's my conclusion too. I tested the relay output and there is +12v, so there must be a break in the wiring from there to the windscreen - I'll run a new cable.

The heated seats and interior lights not working must be an unrelated issue.

The wiring diagram shows the take off for the windscreen jet heaters as between the engine run relay & the heated windscreen relay. Have you checked the plugs are tight under the auxiliary fuse box?

Relay 5 in the main fuse box is for the interior lights (wronly shown as heated rear screen in the handbook).

Heated seats run off the cigar lighter circuit through a small realy in the centre consul and is always live.... Check ALL the fuses though.
