Got a nice lil wiring fault with my 95 scorpio... Able to diagnose but doing the lazy way to see if anyone has had a common conncern ?

VSS Doesnt work at all, either at cluster or PCM and does have the g/box shift problem

I do get P0500 so i know the pcm isnt recieving the signal

Vehicle has just had engine harness re-wired after every single wire insulation had come off and now engine side wiring is 100% spot on... (fault was there before wiring)

have replaced the vss with new

Upon doing the checks, on the signal wire i have 60 ohms resistance to earth. I know this isnt thru the VSS itself or PCM as the resistance is still there when both unplugged, thou continuity between the VSS and PCM is correct

Looking into the g/box with a micro camera can see the teeth in good condition on the A4LDE Box

My next step is to locate connector c202 and disconnect it which will identify if the resistance is coming from the cluster/vehicle side or from the power steering module/a short somewhere

Wondered if anyone else has had this wiring concern / what they found ?

hi there

i remember years ago someone saying that the actual plug to the vss could get very corroded (pins).

have you checked that? maybe even hard wire it to the vss to test?

Yea, have tried that, im pretty sure my old vss wasnt faulty

fault has developed a little by using it today, think i need to sit down with the wiring diagram's and have a go thru them...

Cruise control light randomly coming on... goes dim with lights on and out when pressing brakes.. which points to an earth fault... Also after driving for about 15 mins the radio signal goes poor but goes perfect when pressing brake pedal which again points to an earth issue

Speedo randomly started working again for 90% of the time

Also, for first time 2nite... fuel gauge randomly dropped to 0 for 1 second and back up again

Funky Cluster wiring i think!
