Title: power steering problem
Post by aca2904 on Mar 31st, 2010, 1:49pm
Hi all

Haven't been posting for some time (that means my car was working nicely :)

NOw i have some minor issues with power steering
What happens is that sometimes steering is normal, it turns lightly and sometimes i have to realy force it to turn.

Anyone with a idea of what it could be?

P.S. it's a 1996 2.9 24v scorpio

Check the fluid level first.

Also make sure your speedo is reading correctly, as when the VSS (main speed sensor) plays up this can happen, cos the Cossie Scorpios have speed sensitive power steering (other Scorps don't).

Does anybody know if the power steering fluid will damage any of the electrical wiring, like the coolant fluid?

I've got a collapsed hose from the tank to the pump which will be replaced next week and I don't want to end up with electrical problems in the future.

It is likely to cause problems particularly if it gets on the alternator and the large connector on the FOS wing below the pump.
