I foolishly left the drivers window open when it rained earlier (only for about a minute) & the inside of the car got a little wet, including the drivers door windows/mirror control panel ::)....I did the window up & dried off the panel with some kitchen (vomit clear up) towel that I keep in the boot.

It wasn't soaked, but it's possible that water got into one of the switches & fused a connection, because half an hour later, none of the window switches or mirror adjustment were lighting up or working......no power !!

I've checked fuses 25 & 26 & they're fine, but I don't think it's a fuse problem as everything else works, including the window switches on the front passenger & both rear doors.

I'm thinking (hoping) it's possibly the trip (brown) relay in the door that needs resetting/replacing.....or maybe the door module is kaput ? :-/
I'm just waiting for it to stop raining so I can remove the door card.....but in the meantime, if anyone else has had this same problem, then could they advise on any other possible causes :)

P.S....I don't usually suffer from fear of enclosed spaces, but it's weird how suddenly not being able to open the windows can make you feel trapped & little claustrophobic......& make you wish you had window winders ::)

Jon, If you find a brown relay be sure to tell us !!. I can't recall anyone actually finding one despite the fact that it is listed. Maybe a blast with the boss's hairdryer and a dose of WD or switch cleaner on the switches may solve the problem before you pull the door apart?. Just on the off chance how about Fuses 21 and 22?. I've trawled through some of the Snoopy wiring diagrams and on one of the charts Fuse 16 is listed for the windows so try that as well.

My older 12v stretches have the brown one touch relay,the later 16v ones have that big black complex module.The brown relay is finis 6835787 it has two big lugs on the sides and fixes with two screws,I doubt Jon's will have one of these fitted .

ps JC best to go through all the fuses with a meter,only takes five minutes,the circuitry on these cars defies all average logic as I have found.

Thanks for that Gozz. I know people have searched in vain in the past for the 'elusive' brown relay but your experience seems to answer the question.

Cheers guys, I've checked every fuse with a multimeter & all are fine & you're right Mike, there is no brown trip relay in the door ;)

So unless this elusive brown relay is possibly situated somewhere else, then I'm pretty sure it's the door module at fault, seeing as the only things that don't work on the car are the drivers door controls (window,mirror & memory seat buttons). Most likely, the water has fused a couple of connections in one of the window switches & seeing as there is no fuse protection between the switches & module, then something in the module has fried ???

I've taken the module out & opened it up & there is nothing that looks burned out...but then again, I'm no electronics whizz, & there are plenty of ICs etc in there ::)

I'll pop down the breakers tommorrow & see if I can source another one ;)

Had exactly the same in France after a refill on the motorway... drove all the way to Holland 800 kilometers with the window down doing 180...

My case it was the infamous C110 connectorblock again underneath the fusebox, high up in the footwell. Corroded.

Used an upside-down 1.5 Liter Cokebottle, rammed it up and hey presto. Cleaned it later thoroughly; no probs.

Published this last year? on the forum with pics. Searchfunction takes hours today; will find it later for you.

This connector-array when corroded causes many erratic intermittent troubles...

Thanks for that Ray, it's something I hadn't thought of....& will check it out if a new module doesn't cure the problem :)

I'm inclided to think that it is the module at fault, as it occured soon after the door control panel got wet. But you never know, it could just be a coincidence & it could well be a dodgy multiplug connection underneath the drivers side fusebox :-/

I'll keep you'll posted on the outcome of trying another module :)

.... I had the module replaced myself... it is a metal box from Siemens covered with a plastic lid. When I opened it was allright, no moisture, water, dust whatever.

As suddenly my seatmemory was gone as well and the LIGHTS in the switches on my LEFT side (LHD) was gone I suspected the connector-array and Bingo.

In fact the culprit was a bad pin in the blue connector carrying the + 12V line to the door and module and stuff.

I bypassed that line with a straight +12V from the battery and there they were working again. Something you could try as well as it's easyly done when the doorlining is off.

Ray, you're a star ;)......I Decided to try out your theory before shelling out for another module & what do you know....It worked :D

The wiring block is a little difficult to access, but I managed to get my hand up there & move that flap of carpet & just started pressing up on the wiring (didn't remove plastic cage)...... & voila.....I now have a fully functioning door again 8)
