Title: MOT failure!
Post by exaktaman on May 12th, 2010, 2:28pm
My 1997 2.3 Scorpio  (70k miles) failed its MOT today - front bake imbalance 26%!
I've got some steering shake on braking so I'm thinking new discs and pads; any recommendations regarding make, price and best source please.

Exhaust Immissions Test:
Fast Idle
CO: 0.085
HC: 21
Lambda: 1.003

Natural Idle:
CO: 0.102%

Other than that these pass the test, these figures mean nothing to me. Does anything need 'looking at' for the future?

Front brake imbalance sounds like a partially seized caliper to me.

Check www.buypartsby.co.uk -
Front calipers £39.15 + VAT each
Front discs £9.53 + VAT each
Front pads £9.72 + VAT set

Emissions figures are a pass so shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Almost as good as new, nothing to worry about for a long time.

New front discs and pads (Mintex) and everything now OK.
Just a warning to everyone, the inner walls of both disc were worn to the point where they about to  separate from the webs - 70k on the clock!! Check yours out!

Glad you got it sorted - those discs sound like they were in a bad way !

Possibly originals ?

My brother-in-law actually had one of the front discs separate from the hubs on a Volvo P1800S about 30 yrs ago - scary stuff.
