ok here we go , day 1
sunroof opens upwards but does not slide back ?? any ideas???

Does it drop ready to slide ? if you can hear the motor trying,give it a helping hand,tap it down whilst pressing the switch then insert a blunt instrument at the front and help it back.It will then need lubricating as per instructions on here.Presumably it hasn't ripped the splines out of the motor or it would not lift.

see if its catching at the rear centre on the rubber Rich.

Sometimes dirt/moss builds up over the winter or rust builds up underneath giving it just too much height to drop under the frame.

try pushing it down from above while working the switch

That's problee the commonest cause, cos that's where the join is. In the seal surround I mean.

You're not alone happens to everybody at some point!

Flip it up so can get at the edges, clean inside edge of roof hole with WD40 on a rag or something, then smear round a bit of Vaseline or baby oil, possibly also on the sealing rubber edge.

Think what happens the cables stretch a bit, so when closed it's very slightly too high. This is enough to allow the seal to swell so it won't go through the roof again.

In my case it's a manual winder, so the trick there is to wind the handle back to not quite fully closed position. I.e. handle's off centre to the right a few degrees. That keeps the seal actually inside the roof panel edge. Usually ;D

well tried everything above .....but it wont budge !!! to be honest its not a major problem , just something that bugs a little
and the aircon is fantastic , really really cold , so i`ll stick with that for the time being

i dont belive it , less than 30 minutes after saying it doesnt work i went outside to polish my windows(i hate dirty windows)i gave it another go and lo and behold it worked.......!!!!!!! go figure

OK so while it's open do a clean up and lubrication.

Incidentally washing the car (roof) often helps as well as the water soaks into the seal and makes it slippery, that's how I first got mine to open properly.

Tip #2 ~ spray clear waxoyl all around the fixed frame and the spoiler and wipe over to make an even film with a bit of rag

Tip #3 ~ ditto the boot "side gutters" and the channel under the back window

Ditto the scuttle where the battery and fuse boxes sit, and the wiper arm joints

gave a clean as mikeH suggested , surprisingly clean , no rust what so ever , the sill looked a bit dirty , wiped it down with damp cloth , then applied wax , runs smooth as silk now ...happy days :-)
