Title: FD7000 Radio LCD Problem
Post by brooksie on Jul 16th, 2010, 8:07pm
There is no display showing. It came and went for a period and now it's gone completely. However the radio still worked. I had to disconnect the battery to do other work so consequently I cannot now re-enter the key code. Any ideas what may be the cause/solution?
Thanks

common fault on the 7000, the screen needs to be taken out and cleaned, however you can still enter the code buttons 1 - 4 select the code numbers and button 5 enters it, from memory the number code starts with 1 and ends with 0

I read a post once that when that happened he put the display in the freezer overnight and that cured it. Maybe someone will verify it...............

I did the opposite on my spare 7000. No display, put it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days and bingo, display returned. It is however possible  to enter the code without the display so long as you are confident you have the correct code.

Yes quite often damp, i.e. condensation, messes up LCD's. Just needs a thorough dry out. Although the edge contact connectors can play up as well.

Thanks for all the info. It's cured - for the moment. I cleaned the contacts on both the take-off button panel and main fascia behind it with electrical contact cleaner, as well as spraying it into the buttons and operating them a number of times too. I left the take-off panel to thoroughly dry out and the display came back on immediately.
