.trying to stop me 'getting in' in April 2009 I could not start the car no way no how, so nephew got to us before 5.30pm as the gates get locked then, you can get out but not in, anyway the only way to get started we remove the ingition thingy and I started it with a screw driver. Few days later nephew mended it and all was ok, then April 2010, it completely locked me out, it was 10pm raining and I had to transport several eldely persons home, so nephew to the rescue. Nothing we done with the keys etc. would work, so door prised open, lock released and the dam thing started Ist time. NOW won't start so back to ignition scewdriver, NOW doors won't open, so found another lock button thing and when I press very very hard on the button the doors open. So perhaps I will have to replace all the locks - any idea how much the will cost, I have bought a ingition lock kit but don't undersand it, would rather have complete units to fit? Scorpio Estate 2.3 Auto full leather interior and all usual computer things P reg.

So your door locks don't work either? This is the annoying part: the parts will not cost much, but to get to the lock cylinder is easily 1-2hours per door.

Is this that keys don't work in any of the door locks?

And when it don't start do you mean key won't turn the ignition lock? So sounds like keys / locks worn out (?)

Unfortunately Ford don't do a ready built up lock service anymore, so I was told by Trevor at FordPartsUK, so now you have to DIY with a lock kit. Which can be fiddly.

Mike. I think you will find that a 'friendly' parts man will do the job for you for a beer or two. Usually while you wait at the counter.

Poppycat. If you do the job you will see that you have to locate a screw hidden behind a 'flap' on the box which covers the lock. My advice is once the box is off break that flap right off. If you leave the flap protruding you'll find that the window mechanism will foul when you try to raise the window. The other thing to watch is when you replace the mirror connections make sure the cable is outside the widow slider or it will also prevent the glass from rising.

There can be like a black grease on the button contacts, could be needs carefully wiping off to make it work better. However means the remote will need reprogramming in the car afterwards.

Need somebody to build it up to match your key, however if key is 'well used' probably best to resort to the second black or spare key ~ assuming you've got a second one and it's relatively unused!

Another option might be have a new key cut, could be that might make the locks work because it isn't as worn as the originals. Only one way to find out!

I was using the key with the red tab, factory key?, now that will not work, but fingers crossed the fob is working so far! to open doors but still need screwdriver to start engine.

OK 'red tab' is the PATS immobiliser thingy, have you got a red key? That is the 'master' and should really be kept somewhere safe indoors, it's only really used to program new keys.

Could get a new black key cut with the PATS red insert in it, this can then be programmed by the red master so the car will start. It's possible all the locks will start working with a fresh cut key, if the ignition barrel lock is still a problem it is easy to replace as you've found out. You need a friendly Ford dealer! Or could ask FordPartsUK

Hi! Just a update - still starting car with screwdriver :o, but I found a company called TLC Ford, and today received a new barrel and key plus a transponder?, so hopefully next few days will be starting car with a key 8) The person I spoke to was very helpfull and I only placed order on Saturday so very good delivery and the cost with delivery was £23.00 I think this is a great bargain. :)

If you rely solely on the fob to get into the car remember that one day the batteries WILL fail and you will be locked out again

Also the car turns off its remote receiver after 150 hours so don't leave it standing >5 days either!

Thanks for that, but I have learned my lesson amd carry new batteries with me. But car just failed M.O.T on n/s ball joint garage said between £30 - £70 to supply and fit, checking with TLC Ford for prices. Also is £110.00 for two tyres (225x50x16) a reasonable price.

New batteries wont help if the old ones die completely, you will still be locked out.

Do a search of the forum posts, there have been dozens if not hundreds of instances of this very thing happening over the years.

I would strongly advise getting both front locks fixed.

I dont use the fobs personally for this very reason, if you use them you dont use the doorlocks, so when the batteries fail you then find out the locks are seized and you are up the creek without a loo roll ;D

If it helps I find I'm now in the habit of most often (but not always) unlocking with the remote, but nearly always double lock with the key. Also I use both left and right doors for the latter. It's a lottery which ;D

PS the transponder is the red bit in the key? Needs to be programmed by the car but need the red key for that.

Up date, after paying £327 :o for every thing plus new key and barrel, bashed rear bumper fixed, all running well ;) fingers crossed.

But that's always the case with motor vehicles though isn't it? There's always some inevitable point arrives where a large wedge needs spending on it.
