Title: 2.3 wont start.
Post by smudgers on Aug 22nd, 2010, 10:25am
Hi all am i glad i found this forum.
I have a 96' 2.3 scorpio ghia i havent had it long but i really like it but unfortunatly the inlet manifold had a little crack near the thermostat housing so i found a replacement.  I proceeded to change it when i noticed what i believe to be the ignition wiring loom was badly corroded with no insulation left on any of the wiring so i re-insulated them all but couldnt remove the inlet manifold as the lower star connections started to bend as i applied pressure to unscrew them.  I decided to use quick steel and clean up the spark plugs but the car wont start now the car wants to start but it seems the fuel isnt getting there. i have tried the switch in the boot but that just stays depressed someone said to me about the fuel pressure reg as the car didnt like hills and lost power before the problems so i got another used unit but i think i broke the piping because as i pulled it away from the pipe the connection had a black firm sheathing which was pulled away at the end so i thinks i need to replace that pipe also.  Money is a major factor at the moment as i am unemployed but i need to get the car back on the road b4 the kids start school again.  Can anyone help with some suggestions or does anyone have some cheap spares of the items i need.  Now i going to be really cheeky if anyone lives in kent  and fancies using me as a gimp to do it thats all good  ;D

If you buy a secondhand pressure regulator, make sure they haven't just cut the pipe - you sometimes see them on Ebay with the end cut off.

ty tompion i have a second hand regulator which the same has been done but i may have sourced a replacement pipe and wiring loom from another forum member so i will carefully remove the black plastic from the replacement before fitting hopefully this works. The replacements i have sourced are from an estate are they different from a saloon as i know the reset switch is different?.

They’re the same for saloon & estate.
Not sure what you mean, the regulator comes off with a length of hose attached, you also need to unscrew a clamp on the manifold that’s down near the wing.
It should have a brass or plated steel tail on it at the end of the hose that just goes into the clawed fitting on the feed pipe near the wing. You just squeeze the lugs and pull. If its tight try pushing it on with the lugs squeezed to release the claws, then pull.

This is how it should be, regulator & hose item 3 & 4 as a pre-assembled unit.
