Title: Air conditioning Compressor
Post by ColinH on Aug 25th, 2010, 10:28am
The compressor seized recently, and the driving belt parted with much noise and smoke. The A/C button still comes on with the green light. What does this indicate, and is it easy/expensive to replace the compressor.

A/C is on by default when you turn on the ignition - there is a relay in the passenger side fusebox next to the battery which can be removed to stop any power reaching the compressor clutch. Green light indicates A/C is 'on'.
Recon compressor probably around £250 or you can get a s/h unit for maybe £25-£50 but you should get an A/C specialist to do the work as the gas is very toxic and needs proper kit to handle it legally and safely.

Hi ,
I have a secondhand/good condition compressor from a 24v cosworth estate that is being dismantled ( I'm not trade ) £30 collected from cambridgeshire, too heavy to post.
I will be posting an ad in the for sale area for all bits not required by Me soon. 10% of all sales go to the forum.
Cheers
Geoff

Just a word of caution the pulley on the 24 is different to that of the 2.3 and are not interchangeable.

Big day today MOT.

As Kenboy states the pulleys on the 16v are different from the V6,however I am sure that you can change the entire front including the boss on which the pulley and clutch are mounted, care should be taken to fit the electrical socket in the correct plane, there are four positions in the aluminium casting where the socket can be fitted when replacing the boss.

Many thanks to all, it is a 2.9 Cosworth estate which has been worth every penny with the load shifting!
