Title: coolant leak near thermostat
Post by mrham on Sep 11th, 2010, 9:33pm
ive got a really anoying leak from somewhere near the thermostat.i thought it was that to begin with as it was missing a bolt, which i have replaced.i also replaced the seal its self but it seems to be coming from behind it and dribbling down.

its only weeping but would like to get it sorted before winter turns up,ive noticed a few people looking for inlet manifolds,i take it its all one thing so is this a common failure.

any ideas on where to look next

cheers

If yours is a 2.3 it is prone to cracking of the daft plastic manifold particularly in the vicinity of the thermostat housing. There are various fixes, stick a BARRSLEAK in the coolant, remove and repair using a modern two part resin, find a good used manifold, fit a 2lt system which is aluminium and requires small modifications,or get a new unit, the Transit 2.3 fits with little trouble.

hi we replaced ours last year with a brand new transit one off ebay that was cheaper then going to ford for a scorpio one thanks to a link on here ;). but if you look at the problem section you will see i have a real problem at the moment and someone has now suggested the manifold. if that is our problem too then it maybe better to get a metal one, as ours is just under a year old now :(
i didnt know the 2lt had a metal one and not plastic one?
what changes do you need to do if going for the 2lt one?
