Hi Hope some kind soul can help me pretty quick.
went to my 1996 2.3 estate this morning, turned key and all I got was some funny electrical whirrings and everything was dead, after about 30 seconds leaving ignition switched on dials spun and dash lit up but no start.
Reason for urgency, live in rural france and am stuck without car.

Dials spinning, electrical whirrings all point to the battery. Replace and watch her go!! Lee

Hi Bob,

As Lee says it does sound like the battery, have there been signs of it getting low or is it a sudden discharge?

is it manual or auto?

Thanks for quick reply,
yes I thought it might be battery, it just that i have never heard the clicking sounds before,
have got a friendly farmer to come and give me a jump start.
will let you know what happens.

if it is the battery see if you can get the alternator checked, a dud alternator can kill a new battery.

yes it was the battery, alternator checked out ok

Batteries can fail without warning if one of the plates or insulator collapses. Uncommon but not unheard of.
