Title: Air bag cover
Post by tonyboy on Oct 1st, 2010, 3:39pm
Hello. i've had this squeek at the steering wheel for about 3 weeks now and couldn't figure out where it was comming from. I checked the PS fluid and that was ok, and today when waiting in the car park i happened to touch the airbag cover on the steering wheel and it has become a little loose and when wiggled about it made this squeeking noise. How do i tighten the cover up. there are 4 screws behind the wheel and was wondering if you have to tighten these up.
Don't want to mess about with it too much just in case it goes off
Cheers
Tony

Hi Tony,

there are TWO screws that hold it on, one either side.

the four holes you can feel arent for the airbag but you should be able to feel the real screw holes located between the ones you have discovered.

The screws have internal Torx fitting heads T15 or T20 from a dim memory  ;D

If you are just tightening the screws you should be safe enough but if you are going to remove the airbag follow the battery disconnection procedure ;)

Thanks for that Stuart, I'll just be tightening the screws. Don't want to start messing about with explosives........... :o

lol no ;)

The hardest thing is getting the Torx bit lined up into the screw heads, they are sunk quite a bit inside the steering wheel
