Title: MOT Failure
Post by Toriitom on Nov 3rd, 2010, 6:48pm
Well my Scorpio was up for MOT this afternoon and it failed. :(

Not too much wrong but I am very annoyed with myself.

I took the Scorpio to a MOT wash on route to the test centre. I had it washed underneath and a soapy wash up top. I then went on to the test about 2 mile further on. Sitting in the lane waiting I noticed the tick-over was haunting. I revved the engine a few times thinking that it would clear. After being called into the centre the examiner put the probe in the exhaust and after a few minutes he asked me to have a look at the exhaust as the car was pumping out black smoke. He told me that the emissions were too high and there was no way could I get them down to the right levels. Both of us blame the MOT wash as it must have sprayed lots of water up around the engine. :'(
He carried out the rest of the test and the only other problem he could find was the brake pipe across the back where it joins the two flexy hoses. The failure states that the pipe could do with a cleaning - not that it needs replacement.  :-[ There was nothing else he could find wrong with it; I regard this as a plus.  ;)

I drove the car home and by the time I got there the Scorpio was running perfect, no black smoke from the exhaust. I should have got it washed yesterday and I would not have had this problem.  :-[

Hi guys - Had this years ago after a "luxury" car wash. Engine died after 2 miles out.
AA guy took off the undercover an dry-blew the CPS sensor. Ran ever since... ;-)
Moral of the story: never clean Scorpio's underbelly and noble parts.

I must confess to powerwashing under the engine bay now and again  :-[

I go round the fuseboxes (dont touch them) and clear the channels and give the engine a good spray.

The only thing I have ever suffered from is the spark plug channels filling up on the 24v and causing a misfire on the rear plugs..

BUT dont do it!  ;D
