Title: Fans not working Post by wolfblood on Nov 15th, 2010, 1:46pm Afternoon Everyone. Well I had a days worth of joy last week as the scorpio (24V) passed her MOT retest with just a bit of welding needed. Next day had quite a long drive and when pulled up the expansion tank pressure release was pouring out coolant. This was shortly after I had had driven over a pothole covered in a puddle which made the car lurch quite a buit if it is any help. Upon inspection I noticed the cooling fans were not on even though the aircon was on so I assume the engine was overheating and therefore over pressuring the system, especially as I had added a bit too much antifreeze the previous week and the tank was well up to the full mark beforehand. I have checked & reseated the fuses but since then I have noticed the fans come on intermittent Not on when aircon is switched on and engine cold, which I thought they had to be, but does kick in when engine warm although only slow. Unfortunately with the dark nights I have not had a chance to inspect fully. Any htoughts appreciated (I will get round to writing up my adventures with the cooling system one day). |

Title: Re: Fans not working Post by Tompion on Nov 15th, 2010, 3:04pm The compressor cycles on & off. Check the aircon clutch is engaged. The fans come on when the clutch engages (you’ll see the centre of the compressor pulley turning when it’s engaged) – so you can’t just use the aircon light as a guide as to whether the fans should be on. When the clutch disengages it takes about 10 secs for the fans to go off. |
