any idea on cost ,?cheaper to go for whole hub?

Go for a complete s/h hub as changing the bearing often leads to the ABS sensor being damaged - expensive to replace and that is if you can still get them.

Are you sure it's not just the pump release valve ? if the bearing breaks up it will tend to push the caliper back and result in very excessive brake pedal travel. Those are the bits on ebay, the 24v may have longer caliper lugs owing to larger diameter discs though.

Also, does this noise happen in any other circumstances or only when on full lock? Cos I would have thought signs of worn bearing would manifest in other ways.

The steering pump valve whatever Gozz said does make a "brrrr" noise as normal when it's right over to the end. (?)

Its not steering pump, its when wheel is at lock or near lock, either way forwards or reverse, and its just passenger side front, its a grinding sort of noise ,and wheel judders ,hard to explain,
could it be abs sensor problem that side?

Hi Steve

Look on the inner wheel rim for scores/scratches

i have had a few Scorpio's where the the track rod ends have been fitted on the wrong sides and when on full lock the track rod end rubs on the wheel and it gives the exact symtoms you describe

Yes Stixy that's a good one, being offset ends that happens  8)

Just a thought.  Whenever I have raised the front wheels off the ground ie.  changing pads/discs, the steering allways plays up by making all sorts of graunching noises as the steering geometry settles itself back into operational mode.  It can take a few days but it allways sorts itself out.

Make sure the hub comes with the ABS sensor, you wont be able to remove yours without damaging it.

Bottom pinch bolt, hub to wishbone.
Top pinch bolt, hub to strut
Track rod end
two caliper bolts
and plug the ABS sensor in.

you may have to lower the wishbone to get the strut in and out of the hub

easy if everything comes off freely ;)
