Title: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by nobbel on Nov 30th, 2010, 7:43am Hi, I've spent a lot of money for a new intake-manifold for my 2,3. That was no fun. After that I remembered, that I have an intake manifold from my 2,0 16V. At first glance, replacing the intake manifold from my 2,3 by that of the 2,0 would be easy - looking only at the bolts and the hole for the water. But: that of the 2,3 has two electrical connectors near the thermostat and that of the 2,0 only one. And: the two plugs are connected by a wire. Is there any chance to make a 2,3 engine running with the intake manifold of the 2,0? |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by Stixy on Nov 30th, 2010, 8:57am I have recently fitted a 2.0 manifiold onto a 2.3 . The sensors off the 2.3 manifold screw into the 2.0 manifold . I needed to lengthen the wires for the idle speed control valve and change the plug on the sensor on the plastic inlet tubes for the 2.0 type . I havent tried to pipe the "VIS " system in and just fitted the vacum connections where i could . you will need the complete 2.0 inlet manifold and air pipe back to the MAF the EGR pipes off the 2.0 (just the part on the inlet side of the engine ) 2.0 breather pipes expensive plastic inlet manifold spacer gasket |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by Matt on Nov 30th, 2010, 9:07am Youll need the throttle body and air intake pipes as the 2.0 uses 2 throttle bodies where the 2.3 only used 1 |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by nobbel on Dec 4th, 2010, 10:38am Hi, thanks a lot for the informations. But my special question is now: there ar two plugs fittet to the 2,3 plastic intake. Which one (with another plug) fits to the 2,0 intake? And what is withe the other one? Ends blind or has to be placed where? And what is "VIS"? (vehicle idle speed controller?) Greetings Werner |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by Snoopy on Dec 5th, 2010, 8:52am VIS is the Variable inlet System used by Fords the details are HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/vis.htm) if that helps |

Sir, yes Sir! Thank you. And: do you also have some informations on the 2nd plug I asked for? Greetings Werner |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by Tompion on Dec 5th, 2010, 9:48pm You can see details of the VIS used on the 2.0 here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=display;num=1290587487 By the 2nd plug do you mean the temperature sensors? One is for the temperature gauge, the other (ECT) is for engine management. Normally on the 2.3 they have 2 wires to both (sounds like yours has a linked earth). On the 2.0 one of the sensors has just one wire and earths via the manifold (the 2.3 has to have an earth wire as it’s a plastic manifold). |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by nobbel on Dec 6th, 2010, 12:25pm Hi, the VIS is not my problem at this time, but thank you for your answer. At the 2,3 I habe two plugs near the thermostat device., just below one cooling-line leading to the radiator (a black and a grey one, i think). At the 2,0 inlet I have only one plug near the thermostat. Where have I to plug in the other one? |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by nobbel on Dec 7th, 2010, 6:41am ;D It's really embarrassing! Yesterday afternoon I went out and took a look on my spare intake of the 2,0 - with a lamp(!) - and found the solution for my question. Thanks a lot for the patience you had with an old man. ::) And now I will have a look at the vacuum-lines, should not be that complicated. Greetings Werner |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by nobbel on Dec 8th, 2010, 9:01am Hi, to whom it concerns: what are the experiences you made with this conversion? Is there any loss of power or rough-running, excessive fuel-consumption or something else? I ask, because some guys of the german "ford-board" don't believe that it is possible to change the intake-manifolds (but haven't tried themselves). Greetings Werner |

Title: Re: Intake manifold 2,0 and 2,3 Post by nobbel on Dec 12th, 2010, 11:57am @ snoopy: Concerns Manual, Service Training, page 40, do you have the same overview for the 2,3 engine? That would make it easy for me to see, which additional parts I have to take from the 2,0 for the 2,3 to complete the vacuum lines. And: is there no one who can tell me about his experiences with this conversion? Greetings Werner |
