Title: autobox flare
Post by pedropedro on Dec 5th, 2010, 12:38pm
i have had x2 boxes reworked all flared 2nd/3rd after reworking. about 200 rpm lift when shifting

...ive just put in a replacement box;   that was perfect for 2k miles now doing same thing.

the guy who installed (who didnt do the first x2 jobs) did change the oil and filter but thats all

driving me nuts! have another 2.3 and thats perfect .

changed ecu and changed maf .....any ideas?

Slacken the 2nd gear band adjuster screw half a turn and see if that helps, DO NOT GO ANY MORE THAN A HALF TURN !!

The 2nd gear band screw is the rearmost adjuster NOT the one next to the bellhousing.

These boxes acumulate the 3rd shift from the band servo, so it's worth a try, if they're a wee bit tight they will flare 2-3............
However, they don't usually tighten up in service :(

There is a million other reasons for a 2-3 flare tho........
Let me know how you get on with that first, i.e. better or worse and we'll go from there :)

thanks for that...it wasnt serviced , it was bought from the site
had 48k or  so on it......then oil changed and put in...nothing else was done/touched...is it still worth slackening the band ?

it worked perfectly for 2k miles then it started..

is it worth touching the band?
