Title: Component in passenger footwell...
Post by SteveO on Jan 9th, 2011, 7:59pm
Just got the 'new' car back from Kent this afternoon and was hoovering out the footwells when I noticed that the felt trim below and to the rear of the glovebox was haning down. This used to happen a lot on my old one so I was just going to check the studs that hold it up.

On closer inspection I saw that there is a rectangular metal box that is pressing down onto the felt.

I've no idea what this is. There is a black plastic clip that is hinged on the bottom of the box and clips up over the top. I can't see any obvious fixing to get the box back up off the felt.

Can someone advise what it is and how it is secured?

Cheers,

Steve

I'm not sure if I've understood this BUT does This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/electrical/antitheft/centralcontrolmod.pdf) help ?. :)

Steve.
In Simmo's picture the box below the central control module is what you refer to,it's the ECU or PCM (power control module) ,the one pictured is riveted into it's bracket, yours is held in by the swinging plastic clip.If it prevents the felt panel from being in situ you should investigate the plastic housing which holds the whole lot up under the glove box to see whether or not it is properly bolted up.Presumably you have pulled the glovebox out for easy access ?

That's it Simmo, Gozz.

I haven't done any further investigation since I found it. As it seems to be stable I'll leave it until the weekend then whip the blove box out for a closer look.

The car is in for a full service and pre-MOT this week so I may have some more questions after Thursday.............

Cheers,

Steve
