Scorpio Ultima 2.0 Automatic 1995. Had the car about 12 years.

If we leave the car without driving it for more than a couple of days when we come back to it, the battery is flat.

Jump leads from anothe car and she fires first time no bother.

Replaced the battery three times and within a week the same problem.

If we leave the battery disconected you could leave the car idle for a month re-conect the battery and she fire straight away.

The only unusal thing I have noticed is if you open the drivers door the alarm sounds as if you've left the lights on but you haven't.

I've checked everything. There is nothing left on but the battery just drains away.

any ideas

Failed alternator diodes can drain the battery.

have you got a multimeter? if so it might be worth pulling fuses and doing some testing

Battery saver relay possibly? check fuse 36 battery side fusebox and relay 16

are the fuseboxes dry? especially the bottom section in the battery side fusebox?

Glovebox and boot lights (saloon) have been known to stick on

Front cigarette lighter wire bad insulation?

If some lights were stuck on that should be off best check in the dark. E.g. fold back seat down to make sure boot light isn't lit and that sort of thing. (?)

Checking the glove box light can be awkward, I had to wait till dark and only after peering about for a while did I discover that the light was on with the glove box shut. For a couple of years I kept the Drivers Manual wedged between the push button and the glovebox door to ensure that the light was out. Quite a common problem with Scorpios.

I usually set my mobile phone onto video record and put it in the glovebox to check ;)

or a more technical way to see if bulb is being left on ...touch the bulb after opening the glove compartment...if finger gets burnt its not been turning out !

Central Timer module faulty.

Use diagnostic to find the error with the central timer:

A. Switch on ignition
B. Hold in rear heated windscreen button for a count of 10.
C. While holding the button in, start engine

D. Release button.
E. The unit is now in diagnostic mode. everything which uses the unit will beep to indicate it's fully operational.
i.e. open a door and if the door switch is ok, you will get a beep to confirm this.

I find on mine it’s a much simpler procedure:
A Hold in rear heated windscreen button
B Turn on ignition (don’t start the engine)
C Release rear heated windscreen button – it is now in diagnostic mode.

If the sounder is on straight away check the glovebox first.
