Title: Re: Disaster! Post by Matt on Mar 3rd, 2011, 8:13pm Hi bob how much oil is in there? Could ir just be a bit of residue oil in water way from the rebuild? |

Title: Re: Disaster! Post by ro284 on Mar 3rd, 2011, 8:55pm Thanks for reply Matt, There is not as much as before (as yet!) it all gathers in the Header tank, which is pretty filthy again, Today is the first time it has had a long run, 60 miles, after the rebuild i flushed it 3 times and cleaned it all out, i am wondering if it might not have been the head at all. could it be the Rad/fluid cooler for the auto, with the fluid getting hotter on a run. therefore thinner fluid leaking from the fluid cooler into the rad through a tiny split? just a thought, don't know if that is possible, Thanks |

Title: Re: Disaster! Post by scorpio_man on Mar 3rd, 2011, 9:05pm hi there if it ran well after the rebuild and the oil level hasn''t changed, i'd say it was old oil in the water ways. remember it 'sinks' in to the rubber tubes. that's what weakens them. time for more flushing. btw, what did you use to flush it with? or was it just with water? hth |

Title: Re: Disaster! Post by ro284 on Mar 3rd, 2011, 9:11pm I first used water followed by a two stage flushing agent. running it for 10 minutes after each stage, then water again, think it may have been Holts flush. with stat removed. Thanks |

Title: Re: Disaster! Post by ro284 on Mar 4th, 2011, 8:01am Thanks 5stud, guess i'll keep flushing and keep fingers crossed. last time i found the easiest wat to get the sludge out of header tank was to spray it with carb cleaner then flush with water. cheers |

Title: Re: Disaster! Post by gozz on Mar 4th, 2011, 8:19am Yes Bob,pound to a penny it's residue,it does take a long time to get rid of,regarding transmission fluid, there is more likelihood of water in the box than oil in the cooling system owing to the pressure differential. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: Disaster! Post by Matt on Mar 4th, 2011, 1:22pm Best way ive found to clean header tanks is hot soapy water with a hand full of sharp sand thrown in, give it a good shake for 10 mins and flush out with a hose, its good foe getting coolant staining off to |

Title: Re: Disaster! Post by lleewar on Mar 4th, 2011, 8:34pm Bleach will also remove stains in the tank. No suds either. |
