Title: 24v electrical problem
Post by Tobbe on Apr 11th, 2011, 8:15pm
Got some electrical problems with the old 24v.

This is what it does:

Cooling fans shatters when ignition is off. Most of the time the car won't start with fuse 44 installed (cooling fan no 2). When the cooling fan is shattering the fuel pump relay is also shattering. Cooling fans does not work properly with fuse 44 installed when engine is running.

This is what I've done:

- Replaced the fusebox + all relays in it.

- Replaced cooling fan relay, also opened and inspected the connector.

- Checked grounding no 4 and many more.

- Cut loom open from the bulkhead and forward. Replaced engine loom from bulkhead to engine. No problems found with the loom going to to the front.

- Replaced engine and gearbox loom.

Anyone got an idea what to look at? I know that the problem is just something really easy, but finding it is the hard part.....

Heya tobbe

Is the car still in scorpio form or all its goodies transplanted into.summat else?

Have you checked the heater control moduals and wiring connections that are down in the footwells?

No the goodies are still in the scorpio ultima. It is an early reg, 94.11, so it is one of the first of the production line, but it is in very good condition except from the electrical issue. I got a 97 scorpio to take some bits from, so I will try the heater control module from that one, but that ECU won't work in an early ultima.

Tobbe,

To prove / disprove the ecu theory, pop out the 2 pins that control high and low speed fans from the ecu connector, then see if problem dissappears...........basically they provide earths to switch the main relay high and low speed coils.

Sorry, Can't give you the pin numbers as I'm not at home atm, but they are on all the wiring diags on this forum ;)

HTH

Cheers Dave
