Battery too low to actually fire the car up. Water ingress in a fusebox?.

Once the fast flashing on the PATS light stops, what code does it flash?

tried locking and unlocking?

Bearing in mind you have a load of cars like myself, are you using the right key?  ;D (I've done it!)

The battery is fine and its cranking ok its that energetic type of crank when you can tell its got no intention of starting but will crank for ages , and we havent had any rain for ages .

I couldnt see it flashing a code yesterday it looked like it just went back to the normal flash i even tried the other keys but still no good .

;D Yes they are the right keys  i have done that before with other Scorpio's trying the wrong keys  and its suprising how many of them have had the lock pin taken out (or never fitted ? ) out of the barrels so any key will turn it .

I disconnected the battery last night to see if it makes a difference but i doubt it lol   I am just about to go and try it again and get the fds out if it doesnt go

Reconnected the battery  no difference

so i plugged in the fds and run diagnostics first thing it says is it cant recognise position 2 ignition on but this may be due to a blank EEC-V ? , i thought this unlikly as it was running ok the other day but followed it through the motions of reprograming the EEC-V it got to the point of programing lots of ignition on off etc and "comunication failed return to main menu "

so i used the "no start" diag menu  as it went through the test i had to unplug the ecu and plug in the test lead to the car loom and it located a high resistance from pin 103 to batt neg so i run a new wire direct to battery  but still no start

next i used the pats diagnostics and its located a fault  "comunication failure between pats and EEC-V  equiv flash code 16 (but the led isnt flashing a code )" then it went on to comunicate with the EEC-V  but i got the "comunication failed return to main menu " message

I am now guessing i have a wiring problem between the pats unit and ecu so its looking like a dash out job now

You are reading the PATS LED right I presume? If I remember rightly the code number is - after it's stopped flashing fast:

pause ... number of flashes = tens digit

pause ... number of flashes = units digit

So for 16 should be:

pause ... 1 flash

pause ... 6 flashes

off.

Just thought I'd double-check ;D

The pats light isnt flashing a code  the fds2000 said the recorded fault has an equivelent flash code of 16 .  All the led does is initialy lights up then flashes very quickly until the ignition is turned off .

I took the plastic/wood facia  the radio & ashtray out and there was plently of mouse evidence :( behind the dash  so i took all the dash out so i can  check all the wiring . first glance most of it looks ok but the pats module has watermarks so it has been wet  :-/

Simmo i never doubted you  just diddnt think it possible Even though we have had no rain for weeks and its been hot weather i took the fusebox apart and the bottom part of the casing was full of water ?, i dryed it out and swapped the fusebox and the car started instantly  ;D

so again it just goes to show never underestimate the " Scorpio  factor "  wet electrics in a dry spell ? another reminder that there just not like other cars  ;D

Battery side?

I think the water builds up in them over a long period until it hits the wiring

NB I've had the odd problem just because of the amount of condensation that can build up

Stixy. Glad to know you are sorted. Do you have a battery cover fitted?. Have a look at This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/battery.htm) as it shows how to get the bulkhead panel out which would be a good idea to make sure the drain holes are clear. The other thing is to make sure that the large rubber grommet, through which all the cables pass from the fusebox into the car, is correctly seated as it this 'access' point which allows the water to get in and run over the modules.  :)

This is mouse evidence

chewed insulation and sponge

We a surrounded by fields so mice can be a problem in cars  >:( This car is a new arrival but still fairly local so in a way i am not suprised or shocked to see it

Yes it was the battery fusebox , when i got the car it had the small battery cover so i should have seen this coming realy  at least it stopped here rather than in the middle the journey home with it when i fetched it  ;D
