Title: cooling fans on high speed
Post by spanners on Jun 1st, 2011, 7:50pm
hi all my fans are on high speed all the time, 2.3 scorpio?
was thinking of looking at the sensors by the stat housing. do these have a certain resistence? if so what should they be?
thanks

Something to note, if the fans are on all the time it could just simply be a broken wire to the block-sender.   I have put an in-line switch into my electric fans by simply breaking the circuit of one of the wires with the switch in the middle.   When I turn the switch OFF, this activates both fans full-on.

thanks peter,
will have a dig about on the wiring side, i read on this site that with auto climate control the two sensors that are next to the stat one of which is a temp control for the fans? unable to find the info now.
thanks for the info it would be easy to fit a switch in so as a fall back i might just do that.

I've had that trouble when the refrigerant pressure is low.

ah well the air con pump collapsed so its been bypassed. this problem with the fan heaters was well before this though and the air con was working?

You could try another big green relay in case it's jammed.

Do you have an OBD lead? That will tell you if the PCM is directing the fans to high speed - in which case it would indicate a faulty temperature sensor I think.
If it isn't directing them to high speed then as Gozz suggests, it may be the big green relay is stuck.

I have a couple of useful wiring diagrams/descriptions of the circuits which I could send you if you want to pm me your email address.

Cheers,
MarkP

Are you talking ventilation fans, or cooling fans on Radiator?
If it is the ventilation fans, try disconnecting a wire to your HBC, if that stops it you may find you have a faulty HBC. I had the problem a couple of weeks ago. With fans off you can still select temperatures and airflow will still give heat or cold. In my case thanks to Stuart at Harewood, I swapped the HBC and everything now works beautifully  8)
