Title: water pump leak ?
Post by conoflex on Jun 30th, 2011, 10:15am
Got a leak on my pump I think, seems to be coming from a small hole in pump (relief valve ?? I can't look myself as i'm disabled now so going on what a mate told me when he looked) no other symptoms  except losing about 2 ltrs of water after a few miles.
Any cure for this or is it going to be a new a new pump?

will need a new pump to fix, will only get worse, will have to be a genuine ford item as well, they are in short supply. good luck.

It,s very unlikely that anyone would repair it even if parts were available. The 24v pump I'm sure is obsolete, and if you or your repairer obtains one from a factor it will be a 12v one which they list as fitting the 24v,but it doesn't.Much has been printed on here about converting a 12v for use on a 24v,if you check back on the site you will find it,it's rather involved, apart from blanking off part of the rear of the pump, the hose connection is at a different angle.12v pumps are plentiful and cheap, maybe someone skilled could take the bearing and seal out of one and shove it into your body.

OK could be a nightmare then  :'(
Found this should do the job ?

Why does it have to be a genuine ford one used factor parts before never had any real issues with them.

It’s not that there’s a problem with pumps from factors, just they supply you with one for the 12v, indeed Ford often do the same.

The picture in that link is for the 12v pump – the price is a good guide, expect more than double that for a 24v pump.

The outlet cranks the other way on the 24V & has 1 bolt hole less at that point.

There are pictures of the 2 pumps in the how to do things section and a link to a PDF about modifying a 12v one:

Found this post from 2008 on the mailing list:
=========================
In an earlier post Grzes suggested the Airtex 1710 is the correct one, the catalogue is here:
http://www.airtex.es/AirtexWeb/catalogo.jsp

Assuming it’s the correct one,
the list of part numbers it gives is:
1453626 (FORD)
1493707 (FORD)
1518114 (FORD)
7334632 (FORD)
9598591A2B (FORD)
959F8591A1B (FORD)
959F8591AA (FORD)
ME959F8591A2B (FORD)

Dave H
===========================

It’s always possible they used the wrong picture in the link you posted but If you look at the part no’s you’ll see they correspond to the 12v ones on the Airtex link.

That WILL be a 12v pump, a genuine new 24v pump from Ford will cost you at LEAST £150 and thats if they can find one

That is exactly what I do these days, but you need a press and a hefty "boss clamp".
Makes a good lasting repair.
As everyone said, factors NEVER produced a pattern pump for the 24V, but most of their catalogues incorrectly list the 12V one as suitable for 24V BUT IT DOES NOT FIT.

Been there, done that, got the T shirt  ;D

In fact, if you manage to get a replacement Ford Pump, don't chuck the leaky one, please would you sell me your old one so I can re build it for a spare to keep in the box for my Rally Car  ;)

OK then so i'm basiclly screwed then, there is no one anywhere near me I know that can the 12v mod.
I'm going have to scrap the car then no other option for me.  :'( :'(

A bit over dramatic possibly... ;D

I'll give you scrap value for it if you want to scrap it ;)

there are plenty 24v's being broken, second hand water pumps ARE available if you don't want to buy/can't track down a new one.

I'm sure most of your local engineering firms would mod a 12v pump for you easily enough if you show them what needs done

Try searching on the net using the part no's on the Airtex site. There are Continental sites that claim to stock them.

Searching for ME959F8591A2B came up with this:
http://www.piecesvoitures.com/pieces-de-voitures/airtex-pompe-a-eau-1710.html

But whether they post the UK I haven’t a clue.

Yeah you could say it was a bit dramtic ;)
but have kidney failure amongst other things (Need a car for dialysis treatment and hardly any income now except benefit, not looking for sympathy btw just saying how it is :)) so not a lot else I can do but scrap it/sell it to fund a cheap cheap banger.
No one I know can do or are willing to do the mod a 12v one, so unless I can sorce a second hand one it's got to go.
As a matter of interest what IS scrap value atm ? I got no idea of prices lately.
OH and Thanks Dave H & Tompion trying this now.

£20!  ;D

you should be looking at around £220 for a full Scorpio but it will be worth a lot more if you can break it for parts or even let people remove their own parts?

is there much else wrong with the car?

Anyway stupid question time now what if I get somone to block the releif hole up on the pump, I can't see it doing any harm could it ? as there is nothing else except the drip from it no noise etc..  ;)

In the meantime I put a request in to the local fire brigade to follow me around when i'm driving to keep the water topped up.  ;D ;D

I have mailed the people that sent offers of pumps again and still no replies so could mean they weren't the right ones they were offering :-/

Are the gaskets availble from Fords or Factors ?

Title: Re: water pump leak ?
Post by Dave2302 on Jul 14th, 2011, 11:39am
Gasket usually comes with it, if not "Specialised Engines" of Essex seem to do all the 24V Gaskets individually.

I recently bought 2 sets of timing case and timing chain tensioner, plus intake gaskets from them as separate items  :)

Not silly prices either and postal service  :)

Hi Chaps, first time poster, just had a look at the french site mentioned above and did a translation, HERE (http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.piecesvoitures.com/pieces-de-voitures/reference-ME959F8591A2B.html%3Ftri%3Dasc&ei=1jNuTqmbD4zC8QPz1tQ8&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDoQ7gEwAg&prev=/search%3Fq%3DME959F8591A2B%26hl%3Den%26lr%3Dlang_en%26sa%3DX%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D430%26tbs%3Dlr:lang_1en%26prmd%3Divns), looks like they sell three pumps, top one is probably for the 12v, middle one looks like its for the 24v and the bottom pic says cosworth next to it. im tempted to fire off my couple of hundred euros as iv spent a couple of hundred on a new rad plus thirty or so on some new hoses, but then again i had seen some electric pumps and control units, made by davis craig in australia which sell for about £270 from places like deamon tweeks.
has anyone got any experience of these?
