Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 18th, 2011, 10:05am should have said its a 2.3 |

Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by Matt on Jul 18th, 2011, 11:38am Could be, but also sound like a pats issue, is the led on the dash flashing any type of code? |

Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 18th, 2011, 1:50pm no flashing from the led..behaving as it should.. but tks for tip |

Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by lesterlad aka Rodders on Jul 18th, 2011, 2:45pm I had the exact same problem with mine in January. Check the fuel shut off loom for cracked wiring insulation and/or exposed bare wires touching each other paying particular attention to where the cable goes round the back of and into the cylinder head. I replaced my loom and it started first turn of the key. |

Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 18th, 2011, 2:54pm Hi...new loom fitted a year ago so dont think its that ...but thanks for the tip john |
||
Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by PJDavis on Jul 18th, 2011, 4:06pm Don't discard the Loom! Is the new one 'shrink-wrapped'? The heat around that area is quite substantial, and if the new loom isn't shrink wrapped it could easily be goosed in a year. |

Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 18th, 2011, 5:25pm the pump isnt running and the fuel gauge has now gone so next step is drop the tank i suppose...theres 12v getting to the pump |
||
Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by Highlander on Jul 18th, 2011, 5:43pm EDIS wiring can also cause this, a bad connection will make the ECU kill the pump. I had a similar one with a 2.3 where we removed all the tank/pump etc and they were fine, it was the wiring down the front inner wing that was the problem ??? |
||
Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 18th, 2011, 6:07pm would that explain the fuel gauge reading empty though ?? the tank has fuel in it...where can i find wiring diagram for the tank end ?? |

Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 19th, 2011, 8:17am thanks for that.. looking at the circuit for the engine electronic control re the fuel, page 22 the left half (relay) of the fuel relay is controlled by the ecu ,,,,,,pats etc etc . if a plus 12v line is taken to the top of fuse 32 that will bypass those relay contacts and the pump will run continuously..hopefully that left side relay only closes for x1 sec at switch on, then drops out and the ecu pulls it back in once engine fires ...at the moment there is no sound from the pump at switch on |
||
Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 20th, 2011, 8:21am sorted!...pump didnt run when fuse 42 was connected to 12v so knew had to be pump....connector on pump was hanging off...the spring clip was missing; must have never been fitted ...a nightmare... missed appointment, 2 hour wait for reovery truck as didnt want AA to tow re autobox, dropping tank etc etc ...urgh wish there was an access/ inspection plate under back seat; idea for next scorpio design |
||
Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by Highlander on Jul 20th, 2011, 9:27am Excellent ;D So just a loose connector? Dont think an inspection plate under the seat would help much though ;) |
||
Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 20th, 2011, 10:59am yes........ loose connector so worthknowing how that green relay functions ..the right side relaycloses on switch on, but the left one which feeds the pump needs the ecu to close it...so easy way to check whether pump is ok is to give it a permanent 12v to fuse 42 thus bypassing that left relay |

You can cut a hole in the boot floor if you are careful not to drill the tank,then clean the edges and screw a plate over it.The centre of the tank unit is app 20" from the plastic cover over the boot lock,and app10" from the wheelarch,I refer here to the saloon. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: dies after 1 sec Post by pedropedro on Jul 20th, 2011, 1:40pm maybe that would be easier than dropping the tank |
