Title: 2 Questions for 2,3 and Cossy
Post by nobbel on Aug 1st, 2011, 4:39pm
Hi,
there are two questions, I have:
1. My 2,3 Estate plays a game with me since the beginning of the year and from that more and more often. The temperature-gauge shows normal temperature, the falls near to the blue, rises a little bit or shows normal. There is no relation to rpm or speed. Thermostat was replaced - no change. Motor-wiring loom is 1 year old, the engine consumes no water and the oil is clear. Is it the sensor (which one)?

2. My son has a 97 2,3 Estate Ghia automatic and bought a 95 Cossy (BOB) with nothing in it but leather, even with no fog lamps.
He has replaced the 2,3 l engine of his Estate by the 2,9 Cossy-engine (with transmission and front and rear axle, brakes etc.).
Is it possible to connect the 2,9 motor wiring loom to the 2,3 main wiring loom? Or is it necessary to replace the main wiring loom as well? What's about the immobilizer? Is it possible to kick that feature out of life? (how?)

And: some weeks ago I got a chip, made by "Suhe" (germany). It is said to produce up to 15 hp and more torque at the lower end. Well, with an engine with more than 200 000 KM I really don't feel any of the additional horses but my car normally consumed by 10,5L/100KM over the year and by 10L in summer. Now it runs with 9 - 9,2L/100KM and that is fine.

The 2.3 seem to be a bit of a problem, new stats don’t always last long or work properly.
It is possible to fit them the wrong way round.
When my stat was playing up it was rev related but not obviously so. If I drove in 1st with the revs high for a few hundred yards the gauge stayed in the middle but it would drop into the blue several seconds after I took my foot off & put it back into drive.

The sender is the one with the wire release on the plug.

About the 2.3
Have a look at this page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/coolanttempgauge.htm). It happed to my cossie, the temperature gauge was only working when it wanted to. Also there is a possibility that the sender is at fault.

As for the 2.9 conversion. You will need to change all the engine wiring, ECU, EDIS module, etc. The immobilizer will be used, you don't need to change it / disable it.
