Title: over fueling problem
Post by madmoggy on Aug 23rd, 2011, 7:03pm
Hi thanks for allowing me onto your forum.
Although i dont own a scorpio i have a problem i hope you can help me with.
I have a 2.0 dohc 8 valve petrol transit 1998.
I understand this engine was used for a time in the scorpio.
At tickover the emmisions are spot on,however when the revs are raised to between 2 and 3 thousand the Co goes off the scale, the HC goes way high and the lambda goes way high.
I have replaced the engine managment temp sensor, and replaced the lamda sensor, cleaned out the egr valve and checked all the pipes ,hoses etc.
Any help would be appreciated .(if i had any hair i,d be pulling it out).
Regards  Si.

Got no choice really ,cannot plug into this van,no engine managment light on dash and no plug to do a fault code check.
That was the first thing we tried.

It wont have a EMC light but it WILL have a diagnostic port - just need to find it!

But I'm not sure what your problem is?  You say emmissions are fine at idle but you rev to 2k+ the emission get worse?

Well, that's what's supposed to happen - you're burning more fuel so more CO2 + HC's will be produced.

When you say the lamda goes high - what way - rich or lean?  If revving to 2k rpm I'd expect about 12.5:1 afr on acceleration and 15:1 ish cruising.

As amigafan states, some Fords including the Scorpio are not endowed with a light, but in our diagnostics book the Transit from 1994 has the socket shown as near the drivers right knee.

Yes as per amigafan, am tempted to ask "and the problem is?" ;D

How are the emissions being tested?

WHY are the emissions being tested?

Just curious

And the problem is,the van is only doing about 10 mile to the gallon.
not the usual 25.
I mot cars all day and the emmisions are off the scale on the co,hc,(unburnt fuel)and lambda.
Still cannot find any diagnostic plug.
Local ford dealer draws a blank as well

Thanks 5 stud think I may have found it ,sat staring at the fuse box for 15 mins till I realised the spare fuse cover came off (just as you said) 7 pin plug ,does that sound right ?.
im off this week so will have to wait until next to plug it in.(another tenner in fuel)
Hope this will shed some light on the problem.
Thanks to you and others for their advice, will let you know what I find. :-/
