got out of the car yesterday and found something hanging out of the exhaust pipe , looked like a girls very long hair. :o pulled it out not really giving it much thought (although i did check to make sure i hadnt run anyone over :) ) anyway got out of the car again today and boom , it was there again , pulled it again , to say im puzzled is an understatement ............has this happened to anyone before ? if so can someone shed any light on what it could be ???

It's from the silencer box - will need a new one soon :(

oh!! are they expensive ? easy to get ? easy to fit ?

As Scorbabilly says it's the stuffing out of a silencer,they are constructed (if of the straight through variety) with a multi perforated tube running through a box full of glass fibre wadding to absorb the noise,if the tube disintegrates,the wadding is ejected from the tail pipe.On the other hand,a recently fitted new silencer can eject excess wadding after construction,thereafter all is well,the latter applying particularly to stainless steel boxes.Scorpio exhausts are very long lived,and not excessively expensive to replace,they are straightforward to fit,but best done on a lift, allowing best access and muscle application.It sounds as if yours is ' beard like' and may soon need replacing.The worst that can happen is excessive noise or blockage,the latter being unusual.

cheers gozz , will get it looked at . cant say ive noticed it being noisy . in fact its got to be one of the quietest cars ive ever owned . but best to get it checked anyway

I had this happen on my Citroen AX, she passed two MOTs without any 'hair' then she got really noisy so I replaced the Back-box. Much quieter.
Maybe having a bald Back-box could increase fuel consumtion?
