Title: Cloning keys vs. obtaining new red master Post by Lucien on Aug 29th, 2011, 6:51pm Before I shell out for various keys, please could someone give me a quick clarification: If I have a working slave (black) key, which I believe I can get cloned to produce another slave key, what is the advantage of taking the vehicle to a dealer and having the PATS reprogrammed in order to create a new red master key? Is is simply that you can program new slave keys yourself after cutting? Or are there issues with cloned keys or am I wrong about being able to get them easily? My issue is that we now have two cars each with only one slave key. I would like one more key for each but don't really foresee making lots more slaves as we've never lost one in donkeys years. If it costs much more to regenerate the master there would be little advantage to us. Thanks Lucien |

Title: Re: Cloning keys vs. obtaining new red master Post by Dave2302 on Aug 29th, 2011, 7:15pm You are correct, these days with the likes of Timpsons etc being able to clone keys, there is no need for a red master key, (or the ridiculous expense that goes with having one done by FMD ;) Cheers Dave |
