Title: Steering rack
Post by singlefin_scott on Sep 19th, 2011, 8:39pm
Having to buy and fit new (recon) steering rack due to leaking loads of power steering fluid, and that stop leak stuff having little effect .
Was wondering how difficult , and roughly how long it might take to fit the new rack ?
Also should i buy new track rod ends when fitting the new rack ?
Any tips / advise would be much appreciated.
Thanks, guys.
Scott.

Not difficult, couple of hours at the most.
Make you you support the car well on strong axle stands.
Advisable to replace the track rod ends at the same time although as genuine Ford ones are about £50 each you might want to look at pattern parts.
Good company to get a rack from is http://www.kellybraysteering.co.uk/
Don't forget to have the tracking checked asap afterwards.

Thanks for that Mike, Will try to get hold of some decent track rod ends, some in norwich is bound to sell them.
Yes already getting my rack from kellybray, as they seem to be mentioned alot on here.
Hopefully i will have a nice leak free ride again, unlike my 73 vw bus .
:)
