Title: Coolant System Bleeding Post by Steve_Rose on Oct 15th, 2011, 3:17pm Hi guys. ;) . Has anyone managed to find a way of bleeding the coolant system on the 24v. Just had to change the water pump and radiator. I'm sure the thing is air locked as the heater now only gets luke warm. Temp dunt go above half though. I've heard these are well known for this. Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by Matt on Oct 15th, 2011, 3:26pm Hi steve Never had an issue my self but i know it does happen, first thing is have you put enough coolant in it? they drink a lot lol let it get warm on tick over with the cap on loose (dont take it off as you may get a sudden very hot shower as the air lock come out!), keep an eye on the tank as the coolant may suddenly disappear when he stat opens. |

Doh so obvious http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/images/misc/foreheadslap.gif |

Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by ro284 on Oct 28th, 2011, 12:19pm Having problems with my 2-3 again, the return to the pump is berely warm, i am trying to get the air out! i have extended the small pipe up 3 feet to the bonnet catch, i have left the filler cap on, but i am getting water right up the pipe! pouring out. it was also coming out of the tube on the Tank where the small tube was, so i put the breather hose on that to seal the tank, perhaps this is why the water reaches so high?surely water will always come out of the tank tube, i can get a scaffold to the house gutter, and the clear tube is long enough, what am i doing wrong please guys? bit thick today!! regards Ro |

Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by Jonnycab on Oct 29th, 2011, 3:44am When you say the return to the water pump is barely warm, do you mean the pipe than goes from the heater matrix to the rear of the water pump ?.....If so, then it could be a blocked heater matrix :-/ Also have you checked that the thermostat is working properly ? :) |

Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by gozz on Oct 29th, 2011, 9:25pm Thermostat should always have a bleed hole in the valve to obviate trapped air. |

Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by ro284 on Oct 30th, 2011, 3:24pm Thanks for reply guys, yes the stat is only about 6 months old, and i can see the temp guage respond to the stat opening as the engine heats up, it fluctuates for a little while before settling to full hot position. The heater has got worse since i fitted a new head last year, i would like to backflush it, but not sure which way to do this,i-e from the back of the pump force water through heater and let it run out of the stat housing, or the other way round? Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by Tompion on Oct 30th, 2011, 4:37pm The coolant flows from stat through matrix to pump, so yes back flushing will be from pump end. |

Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by ro284 on Nov 5th, 2011, 1:35pm Thanks Tompion, The problem was the stat gasket, there is no blockage in the matrix, back-flushed it anyway all clear now.when i replaced the head, the rubber sealing gasket was too floppy, so cut it and glued it, but the rubber had gone soft again, i should have fitted a new one the first time! have heat again yippee. Thanks Bob |

Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by Tompion on Nov 5th, 2011, 2:24pm Glad you got it sorted. It seems daft to me that new stat’s (from Ford at least) don’t come with a gasket. |

Title: Re: Coolant System Bleeding Post by catalina on Nov 7th, 2011, 8:40pm Interesting to read your saga with the 24v. I believe that the type and location of the thermostat was changed at some stage for the 24v. One was fitted in the pipeline behind the AC compressor and was costly in time and money to replace. The other type was bolted to the engine somewhere. Do you know which type you had please? Cheers John |
