Title: DOOR lOCK AND aLARM
Post by josswallace on Nov 8th, 2011, 11:33am
I have an R registered Scorpio Ultima 2.3 Estate.

When using the remote to lock the doors the first push of the lock button actually locks the doors. Is the alarm set at this stage or is that only set when you press the lock button for a second time and the hazard lights flash.

If pressing the lock button for the second time is actually setting the alarm, how do you set the alarm without the remote.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Ian

No the car is not alarmed with just one push of the fob, it does as you say require both presses

To do it with the key, insert the key the first turn it in the unlock direction then into the lock direction within 3 seconds and without removing the key. You will hear the door locks twice, locking and deadlocking, plus your indicators will flash

Info from the hand book re key locking

I always thought that if the doors were locked ie single press on remote or key lock   the alarm was activated.....two presses takes you to next stage deadlocking........would be interested to know without testing the alarm which is right

What does deadlocking mean

a bolt is thrown across which precludes any forced entry..so even if the door handles are pulled open the car is stil locked "deadlocked"

As far as I know all deadlocking does is prevent the internal handles working.

Acording to the Handbook (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook036.gif) you are !. It states that once a front door is locked the alarm is set. :)

I concur locking the car by key or one press of the remote also sets alarm, AFAIK you can't lock without setting the alarm.

This is verified by red LED on top of dashboard lighting for about 3 seconds then flashing about once every 2 seconds thereafter, means alarm is armed.

2 presses on remote, or unlock/lock on the key within 3 seconds also sets deadlocking (aka double-locking), which is interior door handles won't work, so can't open any door from the inside e.g. after breaking a window.

This doesn't account for any modifications, e.g. by default UK market cars don't flash the indicators after remote locking.
