Title: Temp sensor / sender
Post by Scorp_Kev on Dec 14th, 2011, 1:41pm
Hi. Can anyone point me in the direction of where the temperature sensor lives. My gauge has started to stay very near the zero, even though it heats up nicely. I have done the diags and even when warm it reads 255.
Faulty sender ????

The ECT & the gauge sensors are mounted on the thermostat housing just below the inlet trunking near the throttle body.

The one for the gauge has a wire release like this:

To test the wiring link the 2 wires the gauge should go to max.

Just found i have the same problem. Despite a 30 mile motorway drive, temp gauge near bottom. Did you manage to fix it?

Yep. Tested first by shorting the plug, then part from CAF. Not genuine part but does the job. Working now, although only up to a third but I will put that down to 0.0 degrees outside. And Tompion. What is the "ECT". Kev

There are 2 coolant sensors, one for the gauge & one used by the engine management (ECT - engine coolant temperature).
