Title: Engine 'Tickover'
Post by johnk on Jan 1st, 2012, 9:57am
When the car is stationary revs drop and runs lumpyand sometimes engine stops, espeecially if in gear (automatic) 2.3 Estate Ultima R reg. Has anyone any idea on what this could be.  Car has only done 63,000 from new ???

hi there

first thing i'd look at is the idle control valve.

this is bolted to the manifold with 2 small (8 or 10mm) bolts.

take it off and spray a good bit of carb cleaner in to it. then spray a bit of wd40 on to the 'ram' pipe/air seal and work it back and forth with a screwdriver. remember the movement is minimal, so be gentle.

The other thing to do is clean the MAF. Read This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm) and DON'T touch the filaments. All is explained in the text. :)
