Hi,
I have a Scorpio Ghia 2.3x estate and recently its developed an electrics issue. Sometimes when I start it up, the wipers, indicators, windows and dials on dashboard don't work. After a short while it then tends to spring into life but this morning they just wouldn't work after trying for about 10 mins. Front & rear lights work OK.

Could this be an alternator issue? Anything else I can check? Any help/advice appreciated.

Done some more digging in forum and found that potential issue could be relay 21. so is it worth trying to swap black relays 18 and 21 over just to try to eliminate relay 21 as a possible fault?

If the relays are causing a problem then the first suspect is the fuse box. Does your Scorp have the black plastic cover under the bonnet because if not then rain water can get into the fusebox and cause all sorts of havoc.

Thanks for the info & links. The fusebox does have black plastic cover so ok on that score. No water was collecting so I swapped over Relay18 with Relay21 and that seemed to do the trick. Instruments lit up in ignition and indicators etc worked. Are these black relays common to most Ford models as I may need to get another one.

This cropped up the other day. Have a read of This post (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1326962515;start=4#4). They appear to be common to several Fords and you'll probably get one off a member on here. Steve(Admin) was probably referring to the large battery cover which is also vital in preventing water getting in to the box. Do you have one fitted?. :)

Thanks for the link. I can confirm I do have large battery cover fitted aswell.
