Title: 24v cossie starting problems
Post by white175 on Feb 7th, 2012, 10:36am
Help Needed!

I have 24v cossie estate with mind of its own due to dreaded PATS system.
Problem started on friday during cold spell parked car and returned 1hr later to find pats 1-6 flashing and car would only crank, left it over night returned following day and started 1st time thogh no more as it was pretty cold night before and put it down to the weather. 2hrs later after driving around start/stopping with no problems same thing happened? got some help to push it out of the way and then tried it again before leaving it and it started (much to the dismay of the people who had pushed it. oops!) the car ran perfect again as always without missing a beat until sunday when after going out with the misses for dinner we returned and same thing but this time started after 20 mins of trying. took car for a wash a little later and it happened again but this time im stuck in the car wash (oh f**k) had to leave car there for 4 hours then hey presto it started again ran fine and then same thing monday night after driving around all day start/stopping with no issues.
Im now losing faith in the old girl and planning my journeys as to where its safe to leave her should she do it again.
I repaired the engine loom last year from injector plugs back to molex plug beneath power steering resevoir and had no issues til now.
Would i be right in thinking that if the pats system saw a short from a wire it locks out for any given time? if so is there and pats wiring contained in the other molex plug and loom or is it contained in the loom i've repaired?
If anybody has Pats diagram then that would give me a place to start tracing wire colours etc

Thanks in advance
Dave

Before you embark on a major search for a fault have you checked out the battery?. These cars need a significant amount of power to start them albeit the engine will, frustratingly, turn over. Check the alternator output as well. No doubt because of the conditions you are using much more power than normal and thus both the battery and alternator need to be spot on.  :)
