Title: Estate Rear Wash Wipe
Post by Mottsy on Feb 29th, 2012, 4:35pm
Hi All,

The rear washer wiper from my 2.9 12v ultima estate is leaking, I've taken it off and it's not any of the rubber hoses but actally comming from inside the unit and leaking out. Is there any point in trying to see if it will come to bits or shoyuld I just get a new/second hand one. (If so does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks

Mottsy. Are you referring to the unit in the tailgate or the actual wiper arm which of course has the jet in the arm itself ?. As you will have probably disovered the wiper arm is secured to the shaft and the water is fed up through it. Does the water flow freely here once the arm is removed? have you probed this point?. There is then a tiny plastic cap which sits over the shaft and an even smaller outlet on it,at right angles,to which the rubber tubing running inside the arm up to the 'head' is fixed. This of course carries the water to the actual jet which could be blocked. The plastic fitting is very fragile so great care is needed when removing it or the 'right angle' outlet will snap off.  :)

I've checked the washers and it does spray some water out of the end of the wiper arm, unfortunately some water also comes out of the circular plastic cap that is on fits to the alloy mechinism housing, so it is leaking inside there somewhere and that water ends up making the carpet in the estate wet.
I've checked the hose into the right angled plastic pipe and it's not leaking from the hose or that pipe inside the tailgate, I assume it's not leaking from the pipe thats on the wiper arm as then I don't think the water would leak inside the tailgate and make the carpet wet. As I say there is a sort of circular plastic cap on the alloy housing thats bolted inside the tailgate, and this is where the water is comming from, so it looks like the problem is inside the wiper motor unit itself.
Hope that makes sense.
