Title: Electrical Problem
Post by maddogul on Mar 28th, 2012, 8:10pm
Hello
I have the following issue since i installed a SteelMate alarm, which now i removed.
First the dom lights don't work on the 30sec timer any door open only curb lights work, cheched contact on the door all ok so no interior lights.
Second on the headlights switch when turned to low beam the rear fogs iluminate whithout pulling the switch, for this removed the bulbs :), the when i pull for the front fog lights the green indicator iluminates and surprise i have acc position like starting the car on with the key in my hand.
If i start the car and pull the front fogs the i can switch back the key and take it out and the car still runs :d
Then withoiut the key i turn the front fogs on and normally they shouldn't light but surprise again low beam and fog light illuminate
Sorry for my english
Kind regards Radu

Have you disconnected the large connector to the main fusebox?. If so look at This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=display;num=1267895931) as it may not be located correctly. :)  It may appear to be ok BUT can go down with one row of pins out of place. ;)

@leewar the fuse boxes are all all no moist no wet, since i first bought the car inspected and changed all the fuses with the correct ones and sprayed a electrical seeleing spray, and cleane the evacuation holes for the water.
Thank you

Check the large connector again - it sounds like the likely culprit and it is SO easy to refit it with one row of pins out - I know, I've done it  :-[

@Scorpio_Mike spent 15 min putting it back understood the ssytem, and i wasn't working there since i bought the car when all worked. So i'm 100% sure that is mounted correctly.
Something else?

Check the headlight switch - these can cause problems with lighting as the connector on the back can melt  :o
Be aware that there are 2 types - with / without front foglights in case you need to replace it.

@mike already checked that regarding the melting result everything all right, will change it since i have a spare but next week when i go and fetch it.
But how a broken shorted headlight switch can cause the turn ignition on fenomenon, also how can make a contact when i take the key out of the contact and the car still runs, but strange the Radio stop working like normal operation when turning back the key. And then if i switch off the Front Fogs the engine stops alwell :D

Maybe look at where you put in/removed your Steelmate alarm.

That was the first place i looked also changed the Lights Ecu checked the power saver module and so on
Upon removal and install everything was double checked, i only removed it to see if the fenomenon occured and it did :D.
Will do a diagnostic to see if the car is reporting something and report back
Thank you for your kind answers

If you have been fixing things around the ashtray/ dashboard area check that the ashtray is not shorting out on the cigar lighter. If it does it can cause some very strange results but NOT blow the fuses. ( The cigar lighter socket is LIVE even with the ignition turned OFF)

@Snoopy actually had some problems like a blown fuse of the ashtray, replaced the fuse and didn't use the front one, will change it in the weekend and come back to you
Thank you
