Pete. If it is the breather pipes under the Plenum then there are two pipes interconected forming an H. the front ones go from one side of the inlet to the other (suction). the rear pipe goes from the right hand Cover to the A/C Evaporator.

I thought that seperating the two would make no difference to the Engine performance. Wrong. she was not happy; revs up and down and stalling  :-/.  I re-instated the H configuration. One happy Cossie  ;D.

I hope this helps Pete

Mike

Thanks mike, that does explain a lot. Seeing as i dont have an A/C evaporator ive got a bit of a prob... ???. Will try tee,ing into the air filter, see if that makes a difference.  Yeah £220 i paid as well, the tester said my emmissions were that good  he thought it was hybrid...lol. Cant help thinking rip off...

Glad to be of help Pete. I have just been looking through the AC Manual "Evaporator Housing" and it looks like the vacume hose goes into the Vacume Accumulator. I traced the hose by hand and may have got my components slightly mixed up, not sure but it is raining Cats and Elephants at the moment and I won't expose my Beastie to the elements.

I'm a complete novice in Auto matters so I can only guess that the vacume created by the engine has something to do with the AC and its interecomunication with the running of the Cossie engine  :-/ I give up! - me mind is boggling  :-/

Let me know what happens Pete, I'm intregued now

Mike    :)

Yes mike , thats the one...to be confirmed, but it never has  ???.
Have,nt got round to trying my cunning plan yet, need a tee piece, a connector and a bit more hose. Hopefully wednesday (its going to be dry apparently).  ::)

My S Class is over £400 a year because it has 2 co2's more than it should!!!

That "To Be Confirmed" goes to the air con flap actuator via a solenoid IIRC  ;)

Don't mess with, put them back where they are supposed to go or you'll get all sorts of problems cropping up  ;)

I run them very differently on the Rally car engines, but then again that is running no EGR or can purge and runs on a V6 Mondeo EECV ECU  ;D

Dave

So blank off that hose? That would keep the vacuum OK?

The mystery deepens....

Is it not an XR4 with a Cosworth engine?

Very good point, I've been trying to make the avatar text read like "Got an xr4 [comma,] [and] 24v cossie BOB..."

"But like Scorps as well" would perhaps suggest he doesn't have one.

OIC  ???

In that case it's a proverbial minefield, because if it's a BOB in a Sierra, then what engine management is it running ?  Is the VIS Valve working correctly??  Depending, it may not have EGR, Can Purge Etc Etc  ??? ???

Would need to see the conversion to give a decent answer  ;)

Cheers Dave

Yeah...sorry chaps, should have explained. It is a 24v bob in a sierra. its the full monty with only the air con missing. Have tee,d in the breather pipe into the air filter, hase,nt made a lot of difference to be honest but it has stopped all the hissing noises...lol. Is really lumpy at low revs, dose,nt like doing 30mph, put your foot down though and the response is awesome...very thirsty as well. The vis valve sounds promising, disconnect it and nothing happens, further investigations needed... ???

I would've thought just block off the hose that would go to the evaporator, or is it not that simple?

Took the car for a test run to scarborough (90 mile round trip) and apart from a 30 min breakdown on the sea front due to an immobiliser problem (very stressfull and it was a red hot afternoon) it ran ok. Nursed it there and gave it a good clogging on the way back, fuel consumption was a lot better than i expected. Very impressed with the engine though, light years in front of the 2.8 cologne that was in it. Just gonna have to live with what ive got me thinks.  Thanks for all the advice... ;)

You've already gone to a lot of trouble to do this conversion, why not get it rght ?

There is a load of info on Ford Power.
What ECU have you used, most peeps use BOA on a Sierra. If you have used a BOB ECU then there is a lot of extra circuitry needed or it won't run right, like fooling it into thinking it still has an auto gearbox for one thing.
That's why I use EEC4 BOA ECU on Sierras and early ford cars...........
Later Fords which ran EEC5 as standard like my Puma 4X4 BOB really need EEC5 so I used a Mondeo V6 Manual ECU as it was more suitable  ;)
Vacuum needs to be right or it will upset fuel pressure, and if the VIS isn't workng right there will be a big chunk of torque missing ;)

There are articles on here and Ford Power by Matt, Myself and others about Auto Box to Manual, Vis Valve, Mondeo ECU, Wiring ETC
