the original thermostat lasted for 13 years but the replacements have each only lasted 12 months or so. the first replacement was a QH which did not have the small bleed hole / valve . I only noticed this omission when I removed it ! the next one was from Euro Car Parts and this did have the vent, but this too only lasted 12 months or so. what can go wrong with a thermostat ? pretty simple device. have now obtained a Motocraft one , so...........................
on replacing the thermostat I applied a few wrinkles to make life easier for access etc. I removed the intake pipes, but used plastic end caps off a cardboard tube to blank off the orifices. a foil base that accompanies an uncooked chicken was used as a coolant collector tray that then fed into a funnel draining into a washing up bowl.
