Title: air-con / heater Post by jls1936 on Mar 8th, 2013, 11:16am Hi looking for some advice. I have just had a service at 91 K. on my 1996 scorpio ult. 16v auto. they found that the wiring at o/s boot hinge was broken, only the earth was intact! They stripped repaired and rebuilt. Today I put my air con on as the screen was misting up. Even when it is set to the lowest setting on the fan and temp setting it is very hot, and the lcd display on passenger side keeps flashing and shows 08.I'm sure it is just a coincidence it happened the day after the service.any ideas what the problem is and what I can do to fix it. jls 1936 |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Simmo on Mar 8th, 2013, 12:40pm As your car is an Ultima it has Climate control. First thing to do is read This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccreset.htm) and carry out the reset procedure. There are other links on the 'buttons' on the left which may also help. Let us know how you get on please. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by jls1936 on Mar 8th, 2013, 3:02pm Hi Simmo I carried out 1, 2, and 3 of the procedure. I could not see how to select code 50 using the control switch, done 5, and 6 and it seems to be sorted. No flashing error and temp. control now workink. Thank you very much for your help. jls 1936 |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by jimbo50 on Mar 29th, 2013, 2:34pm Hi Guys, I finally managed to remove the CC control panel from the dash - the ribbon connection at the control panel is (of course) OK....but I cannot see where the other end of the ribbon goes... My problem is the same (blower continuously ON full) that another member brought up this last week. Any clues/help most welcome, as usual! Cheers, Jim H |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Andycan on Feb 22nd, 2014, 2:22pm Hi I have tried the reset but it seems to have got stuck. I got it to 50 but then it would not go to 00 or come out of the reset sequence. I have also noticed that if you put it on windscreen only it still blows on the dashboard infact it blows out of the dashboard on all the settings. Given these problems would it be the control unit , wiring , control buttons or a combination of all 3 things broken? |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Tompion on Feb 22nd, 2014, 5:27pm Strange as it may seem it's normal to blow out of the face vents regardless of the dial setting. You have to turn off the face vents individually. When the cabin’s getting up to temperature you'll find the centre face vents go cold before the side ones. If it’s that it won’t stay on 00 or S0 (whichever it says on the reset page) during a reset that’s normal. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Andycan on Feb 22nd, 2014, 6:00pm It still doesn't explain why the aircon is not blowing cold and on full heat it comes out warmish but not hot like it used to on my 2.0 16v or are the 24v's different? lol. I just hopeit isn't the heater rad as if it is then I will have near enough rebuilt the whole car lol. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Tompion on Feb 22nd, 2014, 7:44pm Well no it wouldn’t explain it as it’s not what you asked ;D The climate control when fitted works the same on all models. You may have a problem with the matrix but that wouldn’t explain the aircon problem. Since it may be a problem with both systems you probably need to give more details. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Andycan on Feb 22nd, 2014, 7:57pm Ok when you put it on demist it doesn't seem to blow on the screen. I didn't check the footwell setting as they are full of tools at the moment lol. When you put it on full heat it seems to be blowing warm but not very warm. When you put it on low with the aircon on it blows luke warm. The system was regassed july last year and blew ice cold but not hot. When I tried to reset the climate control after pressing the 2 buttons it came up with 52 which I managed to get down to 50 but then it wouldn't reset to 00 or come out of the reset programme. there do not appear to be any fault codes on startup. The previous owner has obviously had the climate control out as it is very loose in the dashboard and the cover for the temp sensor is missing thus the thought that wires or controls or climate computer might be damaged. I believe the control panel is easy to prise out so will try it tomorrow and see if I can find anything obvious. Thanks Tompion. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Tompion on Feb 22nd, 2014, 10:41pm S* & 0* codes point to the same problem. The reset page gives 02 as “Blower switch or air distribution switch defective”. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Simmo on Feb 23rd, 2014, 7:06am Andy, the codes Tompion refers to are Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccreset.htm) Read This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fasciabulbs.htm) to remove the fascia panel. Note the warnings in red re the 'tang' which is nearest the steering wheel. The site diagram shows a left hand drive car. :) If you look at the 7th diagram labelled ELS3402015 it shows the location of the securing springs which can be quite stiff. An old credit card is useful or a thin flat bladed knife. :) |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Andycan on Feb 23rd, 2014, 12:46pm Well got the climate control fasia off and 2 clips are broken and the back panel protecting the circuit board is loose and warped and held together with masking tape. I found a replacement ribbon loom if I need it from a computer which is a ide hard drive to motherboard loom just for information and if they work are quite cheap on ebay. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Tompion on Feb 23rd, 2014, 11:11pm If I remember correctly it's the ribbon cable for a computer floppy drive. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Andycan on Feb 24th, 2014, 8:34pm yes Tompion floopy or cd drive but it is worth remembering but with my memory I will have forgotten by next week lol. I am going to try and get a climate facia panel and try that the if it don't work change the ribbon and if still no joy then change the control unit. Found the radio wires were all tangled up with a couple cut while playing so got a bit of loom replacement to do as well now lol. Thanks everyone with advice and links. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Andycan on Feb 27th, 2014, 2:12pm I have been playing with it today in the 5 minutes of sun we had and it seems when you press the aircon button the light comes on but the engine revs don't dip so might be the control box or several wires lol. |

Title: Re: air-con / heater Post by Glyn on Feb 27th, 2014, 2:26pm When you do that I presume you don't hear the air con compressor clutch engage ? |
