i suspect it has rained recently  my abs light used to regularly come on after a shower of rain and if i did nothing i learned it would go out after a couple of days dry use . at first i used to take out the sensors and grease them wd 40 on all the connections  even spent £80 on a new sensor for n.s front that came out in pieces and i got a whole six months troublefree . i suggest you remove the rear wheel unplug the sensor in case there is water ingress and sit there with a hairdryer first make sure the connector is dry then heat up the sensor area blowing dry any possible moisture then undo the sensor retaining bolt about one full turn then retighten but dont overtighten the object is simply to re-establish earth connectivity between the sensor  casing and the hub in case its corroded in . as far as i can see there are no moving parts in a sensor simply miles of hair thin copper wire in a sealed container so the odds are on the wiring connections or the mounting of the sensor  on the hub housing with water or corrosion

Failing that, I have a spare rear sensor if you need it. Cheers Lee

The 2 sensor wires are all that's required - the sensors don't need earthing. If you're not getting continuity it won't be due to rust on the hub. Check for continuity directly at the sensor plug under the rear passenger seat to ensure the fault isn't in the wiring between the controller and the sensor.

NSR shows fluctuating resistance 30 to 300 ohms! all others around 1.06. I have disconnected it for the time being and will try the hairdryer trick over the weekend

Now what?
Fitted sensor supplied by leewar and  opened a can of worms.  Brake peds worn out completely. Rear Shock absorber leaking. Put it all back together Light still on! Drove up the road light still on???
All the sensors now are in the correct range 1.2 Ohms the one I have taken off is definately wrong at 30+ ohms how do I tell what is wrong??   oh and has anyone a rear shock absorber (Estate)

I'm sure Tompion with have a view on the ABS. As for the shock absorber I suggest you read This thread (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=display;num=1282569538). I suggest you do what I and others have done and that is replace both units with the Sierra ones. To remove your existing shock absorber you will have to drop the rear suspension and ideally you should replace the pair. IF you can get a direct replacement it will probably cost more than the car's worth.  :o

This (http://www.monroeshop.co.uk/monroe-original-shock-absorber-single-pn-r3410_p22271230.htm) is the link you want.

Have you cleaned-up the stator-ring?   When you remove the sensor look down into the hole it fills, you'll see a ring-gear on the hub.   This needs to be clean and 'crud-free', so you might need to take a good bit of time and get a thin strong screw-driver and manually scrap each groove on this ring-gear.   I had to do exactly this with mine on both sides, no problems since.   Be careful not to break the tip of the screw-driver whilst performing this operation, it takes time and patience, took me over an hour for both sides.

As Peter say's, the ring cruds up. I get underneath and put in a slightly coarse sandpaper and turn the ring, cleaning as you do so!!! Seems to work well  :)
Glad the sensor is working for you ;)

I did clean the ring! Anyway took it apart again and gave it a thorough going over reseated sensor and put it all back together. Checked all the fuses. Tested all the connections Drove it Home Light STILL ON!! ???

Spent all night dreaming about Teves boxes, electronics, sensors, fuses, Even got to thinking shh (new car)
Any way got in it this morning --funny? --something wrong with dashboard??  No lights, now what??
LIGHTS GONE OUT the gods are being favourable today.

Hi,

Just clicked on the link in your first post, it's the old picture, the one at the bottom of my posts now has more detail:

You can spend ages on ABS, a code reader makes it so much easier. I wouldn’t be surprised if your controller is the problem, typically the light comes on during long journeys & then comes on with shorter & shorter journeys.

If the problem returns I have a repaired one I could swap via post, I could then read yours on my car and see if you have a C1095 code.

By the way I expect your sensor meter readings are times 1000 - around 1.06K

I had the same type of thing, my light came on. After checking sensors and cleaning rings etc, after a few days it went off, and has stayed off.

I have a spare estate rear shock available, used but looks ok to use again.

Fitted shocks. Many thanks Mike.  I'm sure that job used to be easier! Bad news, failed MoT . On a wheel bearing! that I replaced last month because it was noisy. This ones as quiet as anything, still cant argue. So I am in need of a hub and an abs sensor since I'll never get the existing one out in one piece.N/S/F
Oh also failed on a brake imbalance at the front. This seems to happen every year on both scorpios.!

Brake imbalance could be caliper sliders seizing. Strip, clean and regrease.
