Title: Flat spot 2.3 Auto
Post by cabbybell on Jun 10th, 2013, 9:51am
I am having intermittant problems with my 2.3 Auto estate - when pulling away - usually at junctions  there is an intermittant flat spot - accelerator to floor but car doesn't pull away - eventually power kicks in - Hadn't happened for a while but has happened twice this morning - car seems very sluggish and lacking power - any ideas

The first thing to do is read and follow This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm) link.  The second would be to check the fuel filter. ;)  Welcome to the site. :)

Sounds ignition related  ;)

Old spark plugs can seriously slow a car down, especially when trying to pull away.

Past their best coil packs & HT leads are also a big contributor to lack of power, causing misfire (hiccups) when accelerating.

Or could be the good old engine wiring loom problem of crusted/brittle/missing cable insulation (going to coil packs) at the top of the engine, causing a short to earth, or broken & fraid so bad that they can no longer conduct properly & carry the proper amount of current.

Hope this helps  :)
