Just recently there's a 'creaking' sound coming from the front-end. To me it sounds like the 'Strut-Top-Mount' rubber creaking when I turn the steering, it happens mostly when the front end has more weight on it e.g. when braking and steering. I sprayed the 'doughnuts' with silicon-grease and it momentarily seemed to help but maybe that was because I lifted the front of the car. Doesn't do any creaking when the car is going along the road at normal speeds, just in town and when parking. It started to happen when the weather got hot! Ideas?

The inner end of the track rod can do this. Mine did it recently after doing the tracking presumably because the ball & socket were working in a different position to how they’d worn. It’s gone off now but I expect it’ll fail.
You could try releasing the bellows & working some grease into it.

Quite correct Dave,I have experienced this,it is tricky to locate.PJ if you can get the creak by bouncing the car up and down,remove the track rod end temporarily from the track control arm and listen again.

OK. I'll try doing this, but I changed the whole track rods including the outer on the steering about Six months ago. Mind I put up a thread on the How-To-Do-Things. Also, it's more of a steering thing than a bouncing thing that's why I thought the strut-top rubber.

Could be the strut mounts. They do tend to creak more when they're old & especially in hot weather.

I had this in my 2.3 a few years back & so replaced the strut mounts (rubbers & bearing rings) & the noise went away. But to be honest, the old rubbers & mounts didn't look that bad.....they're pretty tough old b****rs ;)

When the wifes old Scorp estate started doing exactly the same thing, I just left it alone, forgot about it & lived with it, as it only made the noise on hot days when turning the steering wheel in very slow moving conditions or when stationary (car parks etc) :)

It's probably a heat vs old rubber thing & it's only an MOT failure if there is excessive play in the top mounts. But if it bothers you that much (like it did me the first time 'round), then new rubber mounts & bearing rings should sort it :)

hi yes same creeking noise on my scorp at the moment only get it in hot wether.mainly from the righthand front when it goes over speed bumps and uneven surfaces.ive sprayed with wd etc but still there.i put up whit it at the moment .changed wishbones last year ???

Hi JC I think you're right here. I've sprayed as best as I can with silicon-grease (Not WD 40 Obviously) but it's still there, I'm going to wait an see what happens when the frost starts to come soon! ;)
