Title: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by AndreB83 on Sep 6th, 2013, 1:12am Hey folks, Got some trouble with the power steering. Its working but not with the full power that is normal ??? I think there is a problem wit the speed senitive ??? Valve ??? at the steering rack. Is it possible for me to repair this? I think it is something like an Valve with a Plug in it. I allready checked for leaks and dirt in the reservoir´s filter. Fluid is red and clear. Pump is working properly Has anybody done this before? Thanks Andre from Germany |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by Dave2302 on Sep 6th, 2013, 10:35am Could be caused by several things.............. 1) A faulty VSS, is your speedo reading ok ?? 2) Faulty pressure switch in the pipe from pump 3) Faulty wiring from ECU to Switches / Rack 4) Faulty Rack or Pump HTH Dave |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by Simmo on Sep 8th, 2013, 5:51pm Sounds like a wiring problem alongside the steering column, probably near the rack. :) |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by AndreB83 on Sep 9th, 2013, 9:39am Think so too. Today its rainy outside and it worked until i arrived at work. This only happens when its wet outside for some miles. |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by AndreB83 on Sep 10th, 2013, 10:41am I already replaced some wires in the engineI loom (not engine bay loom) the big one frome rear left wheel to rear front wheel and both of the fuseboxes. Car is running fine now and no electric problems like ABS ant Teaction controll since 10000 km anymore. Today im getting a new speedometer because its showing the wrong pulses. thanks for your reply |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by Dave2302 on Sep 10th, 2013, 12:49pm If Speedo is playing up too, it is most likely VSS, and that will affect power steering |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by AndreB83 on Sep 10th, 2013, 1:28pm Speedo is absolutely correct. Also via obd |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by Snoopy on Sep 11th, 2013, 7:44am The pulses for the rev counter are taken from the alternator. Make sure that the plugs and leads to the alternator are all tight. |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by Tompion on Sep 12th, 2013, 10:46am Presumably you got pulses data from here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm In the same box it says “engine speed signal coming from the alternator, (12V V6, 2.5 TDi) or the EDIS (all others)” so yours being a 24v should be coming from the EDIS. |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by AndreB83 on Sep 12th, 2013, 7:04pm Thanks Couldn´t believe that the signal comes from alternator. Renewed the whole wiring loom. could remember that. Checked the alternator and there is only the blue cable for the charging control lamp in the combi instrument. the faster i drive the higher is rpm. for example if i drive like 120 km/h its locked at 7000 rpm (it´s stuttering :) ) Found loose ground cable from my repair session near the left headlight. connected it but with no success. @ snoopy: Many thanks! Your wiring diagrams helped me half a year ago fixing the wiring loom |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by Tompion on Sep 12th, 2013, 7:37pm I’ve seen this problem reported before but don’t think I’ve seen a solution. If it were me I’d try running a fresh wire from the EDIS to the revcounter & keep it away from the rest of the loom especially if it runs near the cables from the PCM to the EDIS, although those 3 are shielded (shown in the diagram) there may be a problem with the shielding. |

Title: Re: Problem with Power Steering Ultima Cossy Post by Dave2302 on Sep 13th, 2013, 9:50am Rev Counter signal actually comes from ECU pin 48 which is also wired to EDIS Module (PIP & SPOUT Signal) |

Dave, the Scorpio Snoopy had was a 12valve,hence his reference to the alternator powering the tacho, they did not of course have EDIS. GOZZ. |
