Title: Auto selector problem Post by Pianoman on Sep 26th, 2013, 2:14pm I Have not used my scorpio for 8 weeks and the ayto selector is very stiff. Sometimes it wont start in P and i have to select N to start it. I am worried the selector will break as its stiff. Is this just a case of trying to spray inside with wd40 or matbe this will be ok once the car is driven. thanks In advance Tony |

Title: Re: Auto selector problem Post by gozz on Sep 26th, 2013, 2:31pm Tony, the usual cause of the stifness is the seizure of the intermediate lever, there is an aluminium bracket screwed to the side of the gearbox from which protrudes a steel shaft about 10/12mm in diameter, the centre of a small aluminium lever is attached to this shaft and retained by a clip,on either end of the lever are ball joints fixed to the rods. When stiffness occurs the lever is seizing on the shaft and will eventually snap, best to unclip and slide it off if possible for lubrication,if you can't separate it,the whole lump needs to come off. |

Title: Re: Auto selector problem Post by Pegasus on Sep 26th, 2013, 9:28pm Had this problem a few years ago after a weeks inactivity - a struggle to move the box from P to D when cold (& it was winter) but got better as engine warmed up. Solved it by just spraying the link rod joints, etc as described in Highlander's post (from Tompion's link). Didn't have to remove anything. Never been a problem since. |
