Title: Climate Contro diagnostic/reset will not function.
Post by Geoff_W on Jul 10th, 2014, 10:43pm
Ok Folks

I know that the aircon has a diagnostic function referred to in these pages.

My Aircon has started to do strange things including temp increasing if I press the recirc or ac on buttons. Incidentally whilst it increases it will not reduce, but sometimes it will. Not great in the hot weather we are having.

I have tried to get fault codes but with no luck whatsoever, cannot access the function at all.

I have changed the aircon ecu to no avail and have also changed the control panel.

Any ideas?

Try disconnecting the battery and doing a full reset. Then see if you can do a Climate control reset.
I had a similar problem on my Scorpio after a battery change and the only way to clear it was by doing as I stated disconnecting the battery.

Dug out the radio code and disconnected the battery.

Left it for 25 minutes or so and then reconnected, programmed the radio code. Switched on the aircon and tried to interrogate it for codes as detailed on site. Nothing forthcoming.

Aircon up/down buttons don't work, can sometimes change temp using combinations of A/c and up down on right hand and recirc and up down on passenger side.

Currently both sides set down at LO but compressor does not kick in at start and whilst it pushes cool air around first thing in the morning it gets progressively warmer as the day warms up.

Recirc does not actually light up or recirculate.  Are there any OBD codes that I can look for? Has anyone else had this failure of diagnostics.

For the record I have swapped out the AC switch panel. That makes no difference and I have swapped out the PCM again no effect what so ever.

Interestingly removing appropriate fuses and relays does not change the control panel and the LCDs still light up with LO

By PCM do you mean the SATC module behind the dash (other end of the ribbon cable that connects to the control panel):

I’d expect it to be either the panel or the SATC so not sure what to suggest. Are the ones you’ve swapped known to be good? Whether faulty/shorting sensors or HBC could cause the problems you have I don’t know but you could try unplugging some and see what happens.
The panel sounds more likely but I wouldn’t expect 2 panels to have exactly the same faults with regard pressing 2 buttons etc. The buttons may work on resistive values (hence buttons doing the wrong things if the resistance matches another function) so possibly a poor earth could cause problems but I’m just guessing.
I’m fairly sure this side of the aircon won’t show up on OBD.
