Title: Sporadic Water Ingress
Post by november_man on Apr 9th, 2015, 4:42pm
has anybody had this problem. rainwater coming in below dashboard / glovebox far lefthand side and dribbling into footwell. battery cover present so no water collecting below the fusebox . stood on head to investigate to no avail !

The battery cover won’t prevent water build up in the battery area if the drains are blocked with leaves etc it only protects from water seeping in around the fusebox lid. Water can get in where the fuse box pushes into the sleeve the cables pass through. The body can rust through under the battery.
If it were me I’d lift the battery out & have a good clean out of leaves and check for rust holes as the water will eventually get into the ECU etc behind the glovebox.
If you habitually park on a steep uphill I believe there’s a greater risk of water getting in.

Read This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/battery.htm) which tells you how to remove the battery. Tompion is absolutely right. If the drain holes are blocked water will enter the car via the large rubber grommet which takes the cables from the passenger side fusebox to the ECU behind the glove box. Needs sorting asap. :)

update chaps. the area under the battery was clean as a whistle and is as new. the only drain I am aware of is the one at the front covered with a flexible flap hence my query was there another path for water to get in.

The only other route is through the bulkhead as stated. There is a very large grommet through which the cables pass to the interior of the car. If this is not fitted correctly water can and will enter the pasenger compartment running down behind the glovebox. There is no other route that I am aware off?. ???

Can’t check at the moment but I think there’s a large blanking plug – but tucked up fairly high so not likely. Blocked sunroof drain possibly. Leaking windscreen. Missing screw or fixing into the bulkhead.

Can rainwater come down the air-con drains, (or not if one is blocked) ?

I had the same thought - I think it can.

Check for build up of old leaves !
