Title: heater fan
Post by Twin-Stack on Sep 3rd, 2015, 10:23pm
Has any member had this problem, I have a 97 Cosworth ultima estate and the heater /aircon switch will not go off. If you put it in the off position the fan still works and will build up speed so I turn it to auto position and it will run slow. I took the car to an auto electric shop and they could not sort it out. It has been in another 2 garages and still the problem is there. One of the garages tested the HBC and said it was ok as when he removed the wire from the HBC the fan stops. So far this has cost hundreds of pounds with no end in sight. Desperate Dave

Have you reset the heater, how to do that is on here. Have a look at this   http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccreset.htm  may be of use.

Hi. I have tried resetting the CC to no avail as the fan will not turn off. If the fan is running you cannot make the reset function work!!!

Have you had a scan to see what fault codes there are.

Might have a spare HBC in my spares stash - will have a look later.

It sounds very much like a problem I had which was the unit behind the dash that connects to the control panel via the ribbon cable. That unit contains the "brains" of the system.

Hi Scorpio_Mike.  If you have a spare HBC that is in working order I would be very interested. I am not sure it is the HBC but if it fixes the problem with the heater not going off what so ever I will be over the moon. It has been in an electric specialist and two other main garages and they could not sort it out. Please let me know
how much you want for the HBC unit.

All the best

Dave

Hi Tompion.  Thank you for your advice. I shall tell my garage man what you say may be the problem and see what happens.
The CC cannot be reset unless the fan turns off. I am a bit concerned the heater fan will burn out before it get's repaired.
Could you please tell me what this unit looks like and what part of the dash do you have to remove.

Take Care.

Dave

Best try another HBC first as easy to change.

It is the SATC module, item 11 here:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acindex.htm

You need to remove the facia of the dash, LHD layout shown here:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/aircon/acmodule.pdf

It can be done without taking off the steering wheel but I usually remove it.

Also here for changing bulbs, scroll down to Hi Series - with Climate Control:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fasciabulbs.htm

If you click on the 4th picture down here you’ll see how it looks with the facia removed:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/matrix.htm

I had just changed the control panel on mine when it went wrong. I suspect it happened when I inadvertently left the ignition on whilst unplugging the ribbon cable.
It’s not the first time I’ve disconnected live & never had a problem before but that’s electronics for you.

Hi Tompion.  I shall take the car back to the Volvo garage so the fitter can check this out as he had the whole dash out twice.  First time to replace every bulb in the dash
as a couple had blown and shortly after a total dash removal to fit a new heater matrix. He may have dislodged a cable!!
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi

Just to be clear I'm saying my unit had failed, not just a bad connection so no point in removing dash unless you have a spare to replace it with.
